#Disney Studio

John,
per other messages over in User I think, the problem with Animation Studio
is that 2.0 has a 'feature' of copper list clipping that causes the
incompatibility. As far as what has been said, the Disney folks programmed
within the quidelines. Caveat: I have no 1st hand knowledge of any of
this.
Michael
Michael,
I can only say (re DAS) that Leo Schwab wrote it, and I have the greatest
of faith in Leo's programming abilities. I don't believe he would have
written something that was not properly done.
.Betty
Leo programmed fully within the guidelines set forth by Commodore. What he
got caught by was a 'feature' added to 2.0. This feature could not have
been anticipated by Leo in any way, shape, or form. Apparently when
Commodore added the feature (Copper list clipping), they didn't realize
that a significant amount of software (including DP:TAS) would break, and
it was also added somewhat late in the beta test cycle, so it's
understandable that Leo didn't catch it.
Since Copper list clipping is purely a cosmetic issue (without it, you just
get some weird looking displays at times which don't hurt anything), I
would expect Commodore to make it either optional or to just not have it
at all in the 'official' 2.0 release.
BTW, this info. is directly from Leo and Commodore software developers on
Bix.
-Mike
I heard about that, and that Commodore is working on it.
I guess just about everyone likes Leo, and respects his work.
.Betty
Yup, Leo does top notch stuff, and he's a genuine nice guy too 😎
Dunno if I could survive with just a bicycle and no car though!

Betty,
I saw the demo cartoon running in a store window in NYC and am looking
forward to playing with my door prize when the mail brings it home.
Frank
Have fun with it, Frank. I quickly discovered, though, that it is designed
for people with more artistic talent and experience than I have. It's a
neat program, but it does not make the animations for you. You have to
draw every frame. It does make it easier to draw them all, tho.
Betty
Does it have any curve fitting routines? I can do some nice stuff if only
I can get the curves smooth. (Smoothing it in magnified mode is just *too*
slow…)
–>Steve Bennett
Steve, I've only been through the demos and part of the tutorial so far. It
has some nice drawing routines, and I especially like the oval they
provide. You can do a lot with it.
Betty
Yes Betty so I've gathered. Although I don't know the turnaround for door
prizes I'm starting to wonder why mine hasn't shown up yet. It's been
awhile since the DAS con.
Actually, The Animation Studio does give a good tutorial on drawing, for
the beginners.
Vance
I am going through the tutorial, and it is helpful. But it will never make
an artist of me!! 🙂
I love the program, but will never achieve the results I want, I fear.
Betty
I found that DVideo III, DPaint III and TAS make near-perfect companions
for my purposes.
Hang in there tho', Betty, TAS is still only version 1.0, and Disney
Software has an excellent reputation of listening to its customer's needs.

I envision TAS eventually supporting 24 bit paint and animation mode, with
enhanced features. We'll have to wait and see after we tug on "Mickey's"
ear.
Talk to you later…

Vance,
I seriously doubt that there is a problem with TAS – the problem lies in
the user. Artistic talent is definitely not my long suit – but I do love
to play with it from time to time. To give you some idea – the simple
drawings I had to do in order to explain mathematics to my Jr. High
students were so bad that it was aa standing joke for both them and me.
Sometimes the more talented amongst them would come to my rescue, bless
them.
Betty
I think the program is great (especially the onion skin option), but it
really needs to have overscan to be used in Video applications.
Vicky
Hmmm, that's odd. My TAS DOES have overscan and severe overscan. Are you
certain that you have 1.0?

Glad I read these msgs I'll go with Sculpt 4D for anim I guess
Betty, please! Leo's obviously a top Amiga programmer, but anyone can make
mistakes!
From what I've read, Leo would have to have been a mind reader in order to
have not been nipped by the copper-clipper.
