#warp drive stars?
13 messages in this thread
Does anyone know of a utility that will draw STARS on the screen, that look
like they are zooming by you (or you by them…. motion is relative I
guess) Basically like you get with the fancy sci-fi shows when you go into
warp or something. Preferably that loops smoothly so it is continous.
(there is a STARS in AmigaArts that makes stars that go across the screen
from left to right, but I want to go into them) thanks in advance…

The "Nemesis" demo of a couple-years back had a steer-through-space option,
but I can't recall whether the stars are coming toward you or not. It's
spooky enough as it is, what with the big black hole gradually swallowing
the solar system.
I remember Nemesis. Thanks Thomas; I'll check it out again. –jp–
John,
I haven't yet seen the 'STARS' in the libraries
here, but I have a friend that subscribes to a different
online service that has a hack that will make it appear
that you are traveling INTO the star field…. No warp
simulation, tho. The movement is smooth, but I believe
it may slow down your workbench a little.
So, let me check the file(s) on Compuserve, and if
that's not it, I'll see if I can upload it for ya.

Dave, thanks a lot for the offer. I finally found what I was looking for
on a FF disk. Called 'stars', so it might be the same one. Worked like a
CHARM. Thanks to all who gave me suggestions here! –jp–
John,
There are a couple of those floating around in the PD. I assume they're
here, but with the recent reorganization, they might be hard to find. One
is called "STARTLE". It does a 3-d stars effect like you want, with text
scrolling up the screen. There's another program called "Starblanker" that
is a screen blanking utility. It randomly picks either a "zoom into" or
"flyby" starfield.

Thanks Jim…. I guess I'll have to WHAP those libraries again…. –jp–
Jim, I just got back from scrolling BROWSING through a BUNCH of libraries
for either STARTLE or STARBLANKER. No luck anywhere. I checked in
AmigaArts (gr utils, etc), AmigaTech (thinking it might be in as a screen
hack re blanking) and AmigaUser.
HELP! As we have no filefinder yet, does anyone know where these might be?
Do they exist on CS? (I dread recataloging all forums just to find these
files…) Thanks in advance. –jp– (or are they on FISH? I'll check
there too) –jp–
I see Starblanker listed on Fish disk 308. Startle (listed as Stars) is on
Fish # 118. I thought sure they were on CIS somewhere.
Thanks. –jp–
John,
I don't know where EVERYthing is, either – but my first place to look for
starblanker would be Library 15 of User. I don't have a copy of the libs
on my hard disk so I'll have to look for it and get back.
Betty
Thanks Betty, I'll just have to check the g****m library. 🙂 –jp–
I just saw that on a friend of mines 3000. It was his screen blaner, and it
just keeps going until you hit the mouse. He said he did it himself and it
only works on the 3000.
