#Hard Disk Backup

I'm in the market for some hard disk backup software. I heard Quarterback
was good and I'm thinking of getting it. Any opinions on this?
Also, I heard that the same company has software with hard disk utilities
on it. Has anyone heard of this, and is it any good?

I've been using Quarterback for some time now and been very satisfied with
it. (Unfortunately, I've had to use the 'Restore' function a few times in
the last couple of months. 8( QuarterBack works great, though. 8)

Sorry, I don't have any knowledge of their HD utilities package.
As has been pointed out in other messages, though, the company has made a
solid product for quite a while and is committed to supporting the Amiga.
I still use Dos-2-Dos for IBM disk compatability, even though I do own
CrossDOS. (I don't like to keep CrossDOS installed, since I do so little
with MS-DOS format disks. I just find it easier to use D2D when I have
to.) If their HD utilities package did what I wanted, I wouldn't hesitate
to purchase it.

I've been using Quarterback for a few years now with very good results.
While I bought it to provide disaster backup/restore insurance, I've found
that it is a very useful day to day utility.
Since QB stores an entire disk directory on the backups, it is very easy
and FAST to restore even a single file or directory out of thousands. It
doesn't have to read through disk after disk to get to a file. I've often
used QB to restore single files from a previous day's backup when I've made
serious mistakes in a file or when I've had a GURU during a disk write.
Since we are a multi-Amiga shop, QB is also very handy for transferring
individual files, directories or entire hard disk partitions from one
machine to another.
Another plus is that Central Coast appears to be with the Amiga for the
long haul and has continuously upgraded QB over the years, making it
better, faster and more convenient.

Now that you are sold on Quarterback, the other program you are asking
about is called "Quarterback Tools" and is listed at $89.95 ($20 buck more
than QB). It is not a backup utility and does not include QB. It more or
less is meant to compliment QB.
I do not have any experience with this new program by our friends at
Central Coast, but only know what I have read in the ads. It says that it
will Undelete files, solve validation problems on any Amiga volume (I
assume that this then will also work with floppies), and it is an optimizer
for both hard drives and floppies. It sounds like a very useful program.
I too have and use QB and, yes it is a good backup program for your
hardrive. I recommend it to every Amiga harddrive owner I know. But I
would maybe wait awhile until you really start getting some use out of you
HD and system before picking up the TOOLS.
I take it you have plugged the Amy in, firered her up, lit the green
light, spunned that drive, etc. 🙂 Good goin' – Now do somethin' useful
with it! 😉

I've tried several backup utilities, and I prefer Quarterback to any of the
others I tried.

Just FYI, I have the latest version of Superback which seems to work quite
well. It has a very intuitive and easy to use interface as well as being
fast. And the latest version (2C) uses multiple floppy drives as well as
better error recovery. I have fully and selectively restored with no
problem. Now, if only it would do compression 🙂 I must say that not only
have I been pleased with the product, but with the company that sells it as
well (The Disk Company). Every problem I've complained to them about, they
have had a new version to me quickly with the problem fixed. And I have
been using if for about 2 years now with the latest version received a few
months ago.

Dominick, I use THE DISKMECHANIC by Lake Forest Logic, inc. and have had
very good success with it. It has a back-up and re-formatting features that
will allow the HD to access info faster. The documentation explains all of
the features in good detail.

I'm using Quarterback version 4.1, and am quite happy with it. I have
not purchased the utilities package yet, so no info on that. I usually do a
full backup once a month, and backup any new files & files that were
changed since the full back up on a daily basis.
Regardless of what backup program you end up using, make sure you do
regular backups…..all you need to do is lose an important file once to
know how important it is to do backups. I speak from experience…..

As of about 3 weeks ago, Quarterback Tools wasn't yet shipping. I tried
to order it thru my dealer and was told thusly. 8^) I see you've received
lots of Quarterback recommendations, but I'll add another one anyway. I've
found QB to be flawless in operation and easy to use. Get it! <grin>
