Program Needed!
7 messages in this thread
I will second what somebody else mentioned in a message someplace here:
What's needed is a way to remove Carriage Returns from text files, _unless_
there are two (or more) CR's in a row, in which case they should be left as
an indication that a new paragraph starts.
Anyone who has imported text to ProPage has probably seen what happens with
the current system: either you keep all CR's and the lines don't go to the
margins properly, OR you get rid of the CR's and all the paragraphs become
jumbled together.
This must be a relatively simple program to write . . . the Amiga community
awaits!
Roger,
I think you will find several programs in Library 7 of AmigaUser which will
remove the carriage returns for you.

I just DL'd a program from here a few days ago called CONV.LZH that will do
the trick. Don't remember where I got it from, tho.

CONV.LZH was recently in the new downloads and is probably now in AmigaUser
UTILITIES.

Roger, I wrote just such a program for importing BBS messages and texts
into PageSetter-II (ProPage's little brother). It's a simple scheme I wrote
in AmigaCOMAL; I can upload the binary and source if you wish.
Roger:
Transcript (which is put out by Gold Disk, and can be hot linked with
ProPage 1.3 — i.e. you can select text in a ProPage document, and, if you
have Transcript multi-tasking with it, can have that text dumped into
Transcript for editing from within ProPage, and then have the edited text
dumped back into ProPage in a split second when you're done, without ever
leaving ProPage) [gee that was a long paranthetical wasn't it :] HAS such a
feature. It is a simple menu selectable item. Automatically strips out
carriage returns, but leaves one if it finds two in a row.
You could probably write your own utility to do that with AREXX, btw.

Ray,
I was interested in buying Transcript a few months back after having
purchased ProPage. It turns out the Gold Disk no longer sells Transcript
and my local Amiga store no longer has any. They said that Gold Disk is
probably working on a new product to replace Transcript, but all the
details aren't out yet.
