Will someone with an Amiga 3000 please verify whether (1) Bill Williams' great game "Mindwalker" and (2) MetaComCo's underpraised "ABasiC" run under 2.0? There's a wager involved. THol() { cout << "Sir, I exist." ;}

Heh. I wish I had a 3000 to try that. (I have the two programs…) My own personal guess is that Mindwalker will work, but ABasiC will not. Let me know when you find out. (I'd run it under my beta 2.0 on my 2000 except I can't boot that any more because of a GVP controller problem, to which I have the rom which fixes it, but said rom needs Kickstart 1.3 and I *don't* have that… <sigh>) –>Steve Bennett

I can check ABasiC on the store 3000 tomorrow. I've got an old self-booting disk with Monopoly that runs under ABasiC. ..Jim

Thol, it'll take a little while (I gotta find the things first), but Scott and I will do the test (hopefully tonight (Tuesday)). We'll be in touch. Victor A. Wagner, Jr.

Thol, MindWalker seems to work (I can't tell for sure, I can't play it well enough to check everything <smmiiille>). I was astonished to note that you can even BOOT from the MindWalker disk in the 3K. I haven't found my copy of ABasiC yet, so I haven't had a chance to try it. I hope you win the bet. Victor A. I found a copy of that old Atkinson Monopoly game in ABasiC. It runs on the 3000 under 1.3, but crashes with an error code of 8000 000B under 2.0.

ABasiC crashes under 2.0? Oh, well, easy come, easy go. (I wonder if it's something one could fix with a patch …) THol() { cout << "Sir, I exist." ;}

Heh heh… sorry about that… At least it works on the 68030, which is more than can be said for Amiga Basic. Perhaps when 2.0 is cast in silicon AbasiC will run. As for the possibility of a patch, I wouldn't even think of guessing 🙂 I'm not much of a programmer….

Oh yeah, we had several games written in ABasiC from the early days. — Now, where did the kids 'hide' <grin> them? Victor A. Wagner, Jr.

I picked up that AbasiC Monopoly from the dealer when I bought my 1000. The machine itself came with Amiga Basic. It's the only AbasiC game I have, but I think there were more out there somewhere. I should dust off the old Boing and Robocity demos and see if they work. -Jim

I hadn't thought about Boing and Robocity. It would be a little sad if they didn't run under 2.0, wouldn't it? I suppose I got used to not being able to play the animal noises diskette or that neat version of Musicraft that only ran under 27.x …

Boing & Robocity do work under 1.3, but have to be "Fixhunked" to work with expanded memory. I was mildly impressed by that. I've got a couple of 3000's to set up at the store tomorrow…. I'll check, assuming I can find the disk.

Ahhhh. I need to find my copy of RoboCity (I could really really really use a still frame (or several) from it). Wonder if the source is available? –Eet– I disagree with every word you say, but I'll defend to your death your right to say it! Director of Mayhem — Extra Terrestrial Imports, Ltd.

I took my copy into the store with every intention of testing it on our demo system, but I keep getting involved with stuff and forgetting to actually try it. I suppose you could use "Grabbit" to snatch a frame or two out of Robocity. Don't know about the source code… I know they made a version without the city background for the Genlock Demos disk that came with the 1300 Genlock. -Jim

I still have a copy (I'm a pack-rat incase you hadn't guessed) of ABasiC around here somewhere. I even still have the manual. Victor A. Wagner, Jr.

I have pack-rat tendencies myself. I still have my ancient beige Atari 800, and even the hand-built Z-80 junkpile which precceded it.
