Ben,
Several weeks ago I queried you about choosing a receiver to use with
AVT and you recommended several. I took your advice and today bought a
used Yaesu FRG-7. I was wondering if you could make a recommendation on
what to use for an antenna? Store bought, or string up one myself? If the
latter, what type wire should I try? Any special considerations I should
keep in mind? Remember, this is my first foray into Radioland and I am
pretty ignorant on this topic.
Also, I haven't been able to locate a dealer who carries AVT locally. Do
you know of any mail order houses who do? Should I order directly from
Advanced Electrical Applications? What is the best and quickest way for me
to get my hands on one? Can you tell I am getting anxious?
thanks for your help,
Nick Moore
First, call AEA and ask them where a good dealer would be… I wouldn't
know, there sure aren;t any in northeast montana. :^)
Next, start with a wire, in the meantime call Universal Shortwave and get a
catalog from them, they have a number of high performance, low cost SWL
antennas. Um.. that's Universal Radio. :^) 1280 Alda Drive, Reynoldsburg

have it tho.
And lastly, should you ever want to get rid of that FRG-7, I'd be pleased
to buy it from you. Haven't seen one in years.

Nick, I was looking thru a stack of documentation and I found Universals
phone number:
(800) 431-3939.
See if you can't get a catalog from them… the place is a short wave
listeners dream!

Thanks for the reply, Ben. I have strung up a short length of wire and am
having surprisingly good results with it. I will contact Universal Radio
and get a catalog soon for a more substantial antenna. Actually I already
have a catalog from them, but it is for used equipment only. If you are
interested in an FRG-7, I notice they have one for $179. Sorry, can't sell
you mine. I've got plans for it. :^)
Nick
heh heh heh. Ok, perhaps some day you'll upgrade, neh?

Ham Radio Outlet. You can get their number by calling '800' directory
assistance. Proce is $299.

Thanks, Paul. Just looked up their number in an ad in CQ Magazine. I'll
give them a try.
