#BridgeBoard HELP!?

I'm having a bit of trouble with my BridgeBoard. From workbench, I run
"PCDisk" and "PC Mono". Everything seems to work OK; I can do "DIR" to see
the contents of A: (my 5.25" floppy) and B: (my 3.5" floppy). But then I do
"JLINK" and return, and everything freezes up (the BridgeBoard part, that
is). What am I doing wrong? JDISK.SYS and JLINK.COM are on A: and
CONFIG.SYS contains "DEVICE = JDISK.SYS"

Have you changed anything lately? Are you mixing the old Janus 1.0
software and the new Janus 2.0 software…on either side?

I'm still using Janus 2.0 – is there a new IBM file I'm supposed to get for
the IBM side? Whence?

Eric,
You say "still using Janus 2.0"…did you mean Janus 1.0? In any
event…if you upgraded to Janus 2.0, you need to upgrade the files on both
the Amiga side and the MS-DOS side that deal with the Janus interface.
You do NOT have to upgrade MS-DOS though.
However, guessing from your response, you didn't upgrade…you're
using the same software you were before the trouble started. If that's the
case….I'd suggest you re-load the software on the MS-DOS side, and if
that doesn't work, try the same thing on the Amiga side.

To repeat: I have Janus 2.0 sw on the Amiga side. On the MS-DOS side, all
I have is the JLINK.COM and JDISK.SYS that I have always had. Is this what
you are calling MS-DOS Janus software?? To repeat, if it is, where can I
get the "new" ones?

When you update to Janus 2 on the Ami side there are several dos side files
to put in, and all Janus 1 files must be removed.

The MS-DOS side Janus software is indeed jlink.com and jdisk.sys,
along with aread.exe, awrite.exe, amouse.com, amouse.drv. They were
included with the Janus 2.0 software on an MS-DOS disk by themselves.
However, as I've said before, IF you didn't change any software,
and jlink used to work, but suddenly quit…then obviously the versions you
have aren't the problem.
IF you did change the software (Amiga side or MS-DOS side) and
that's when your problems started…then make sure you have changed the
software on BOTH Amiga and MS-DOS sides.
IF you did not change the software (either side) and the problem
just suddenly cropped up…then reload the software on BOTH sides and see
if that fixes things.

I think I mentioned this before many months ago but here it is in case I
didn't:
I used mixed Janus 1 & 2 with no problems. Version 2 doesn't include the
Break key. I tend to use a lot of endless loop Lotus macros for inputing
large amounts of data. When I'm finished I hit the Break key. I was irked
to find v2 had no Break. So I put back the file (don't remember which it is
now) to give it back!. This was an XT BB with a PC-side HD.

Interesting. I know when I mixed software (upgrade on Amiga side,
but not on MS-DOS side) things like jlink, aread and awrite didn't work.
I wonder if you're thinking of the ScanCode.table or
SideCarKeys.table because they are just translation tables…so it wouldn't
matter which version of them you used.

I think I remember now. I kept all the new things except PCWindow (the one
that actually interfaces the user). Also I seem to remember that almost all
the PC side files had the same byte sizes and date/time stamps. My lack of
problems may be one of (the only?) benefit to having the HD on the PC side.
I was using WP, Lotus and Fox on the PC and had no problems at all. Used a
jlink drive too.

Just before the end of the line at Transactor, I happened to see an issue
of Crossings. Good stuff! A valuable service for BB users. Glad to see that
it's being done. Now if I was just performing a valuable service

One more suggestion … do you have the PCPrefs set correctly for your
Bridgeboard? D000 for the A2286 Bridgeboard, E000 for the A2088. The
Version 2.0 software defaults to D000. Sometimes that can make a
difference.
