NEW YORK (SEPT. 1) PR NEWSWIRE – Commodore International Limited (NYSE: CBU) and Acer Incorporated announced an agreement for Acer to distribute and market Commodore brand PCs throughout Europe. Acer, with its ability to assemble PCs in Europe, is in a strong position to expand the volume and penetration of Commodore's strong brand name and distribution network in Europe. In line with its restructuring plan, Commodore will focus on its proprietary Amiga multimedia product line, including the recently announced CD-32 game console.

Unfortunately this just confirms, that CBM (as several others) has failed in the PC compatible market. In Denmark CBM had till only a short time ago a strong 2nd or 3rd position as a PC compatible manufacturer, but the CBM chain of 40+ CBM PC only dealers changed its name and connection with CBM and in recent large ads, they mention 3-4 major brands of PCs, but not even CBM. Maybe they assume, that consumers know they also carry CBM PCs, but anyway … Acer probably want primarily to sell their own computer brand, so I am afraid that there goes the CBM PC product line.
