#Which Fax? Help!

Just droping in to get some advice, if you would care to share it.
I run a small cooking school in the city of Montreal, Quebec. I'm
expanding this year and will need a Fax/Modem. Whats popular and
functional these days?

I'm using a Supra V.32bis. Can't say anything about it's popularity
(don't know), it is quite functional though.

Did you get the fax upgrade for the PPI Modem? What fax software would
you recommend for it?

I have not yet upgraded my PPI to Class 2 (either version) but I plan to
one of these days when I get the time. I imagine that I'll get GPFax when
I start using my Amiga for FAX communications. Right now I use WinFax Pro
3 on my dos machine for most of my computer fax stuff… it's so easy, and
the built in OCR capability is hard to beat.

My pleasure <g>. I think that WinFax Pro 3, at about $79/89 retail is one
the best software values out there.

I am referring to a software package, not hardware. I work for Delrina
(we make the fax software package, WinFax)

Any Chance of a port to the Amiga ;^) my brothers got Winfax, it's pretty
good… I just wish there was a fax software like that on the Miggy.
Someone could come in and clean up the Amiga Market considering the number
of people out there with the cheap Supra's (and other makes), unfortuntaly
because Gpfax has the market all to itself, I feel they don't really push
the development as much as they would do if there was more competition.

Not likely, unless sales are in the hundreds of thousands, there is no
reason for them to invest in the development cycles. We sell (literally)
over a million copies of our WinFax product every year!

In the latest issue of Compuserve magazine there is a blow-in postcard for a
trade-in offer on a PPI 14.4 Fax/Modem for $175. If I bought such a modem for
Amiga use will the FAX work with GPFax? What other features do you know about
that come with this modem? I'd appreciate any info. My next modem must be 14.4,
FAX plus any other nifty features I can get.

Chris,
PPI makes several different models of 14.4k fax/modems. There are
descriptions of all PPI products in the library of there forum (GO
PPIFORUM). If I am not mistaken, all of their currently shipping 14.4
fax/modems are Class 2, which *should* mean that the US distributed
version of GPFax will work.
I have found PPI products to be very well made (backed by a lifetime
warranty) and their tech support is top notch.

Don't put words in my mouth! <g> I see no reason why it wouldn't work,
since PPI offers both the old Class 2 the ratified Class 2 support, but I
won't know for sure until one of us actually uses it.

I'm running a Supra V32bis FAX modem with GPFax software without problems
on an A2500/30.

Lu, thanks for the reply. I haven't had much in the way of response to my
query the Supra was definately the most popular of the bunch. I'll have a
look around for the specs and prices this week.
