PP&S 040 Question

Has anyone found a hard drive controller that coexists well with a
Progressive 040 board? I am presently using a 2091 SCSI and Quantum
drive with this accelerator in an A2000, they work but the performance
with the 040 mode selected is only 20% of that achieved in 68000 mode
with write times especially reduced. I understand that DMA contention may
be the problem, any work-arounds or suggestions? I REALLY like the 040
and would appreciate any and all help! Anyone have experience with the
Nexus HD controller or know where one can be found? Thanks in advance for
any help.
Note : this is the PP&S 040 for the A2000 ( not Zeus ) w/4 megs
of 32 wide RAM.

I have the PP&S 040 w/16megs and a 2091 with Quantum drives and I don't
believe I am seeing the performance hit you describe (and it sounds like
I'd know it if I was). I have 2 megs of the 32bit RAM autoconfigured (the
minimum I believe) and no ram on the 2091.
Unless I don't understand, I'd say your problem is somewhere else.
Do you have the latest ROMs in the 2091? I had to update mine when I got
the accelerator.

Thanks for the reply – I have Ver. 7 ROMS on the 2091, others also
report big hits with DMA controllers with the PP&S 040 and this was also
mentioned in several articles on accelerators in Amiga World and Creative
Computing. I will install a TrumpCard Pro tomorrow as this has been
recommended as the fast card to use with the 040 – my system has none of
the 32 wide RAM configured in the 16 wide autoconfig space ( there is 6
megs of 16 wide RAM there ). Other than the disk speed this thing is just
great!

I have had good luck with my GVP Series II (and PPS '040) during normal disk
read/writes but I have had crashing problems when rendering frames to the disk
(Quantum). I work around this by rendering to RAM. I have been told by PPS
,however, that the Series II is the most compatible of all controllers. Hope
this helps.
