Well Guys & Gals
I have just received my CD32 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It took only one day to get from England to here in Hong Kong !! now thats
what I call fast…. and who says mail order is slow :^)
Well the run down….
First impression…. well I'm gob smacked 🙂
The machine…..
Contrary to other reports the build quality is fine, the lid is solid
enough, and not flismy. The rest of the machine is fine… no rough edges,
no bad fittings. Overall it looks really smart.
The main machine itself is made in the Phillipenes whereas the joypad is
made in China (I have a feeling it's made by the quickshot people, as they
have a very large factory in China).
The joypad is great, I used to hate the things, but this one sits in the
hand really nicely.
I have it connected up to my 21" TV through the S-Video output, and have
the sound running through a rather large Amp 😛
The games….
Well it comes with Diggers & Oscar – both are on the one disk.
Diggers I haven't really tried out yet so I can't really give an opinion,
although from what I have seen the graphics & sound are superb. The one I
did try out was Oscar…. this is a great platform game, colourful
graphics lots of music & sound effects… overall great fun to play
(although I have only spent 30 minutes playing it so far).
I also have Trivial Pursuit, which I bought for use with my CD Rom drive
attached to my 3000T, problem is it never worked, as the Xetec software
couldn't support this disk.
Well I can now use it ! so if anyone is a fan of Trivial Pursuit, GET this
disk… it's excellent, it's real fun to play, the questions are spoken
and you get great pictures with every question (they actually look 24bit
on the TV, they are so clear).
Well all I can say is, I can't wait for Syndicate, Alien Breed II, Pinball
Fantasies, etc, etc :^)
If you can get your hands on one… then get it, you won't be
disappointed. it's certainly the machine to carry the Amiga forward (in
the publics eye), and get the Name more widely recognised.

A company called Indi Direct Mail, they have large adverts in all of the
major UK magazines.
Or if you don't have any mags on hand call them on (543) 419999 or FAX
(543) 418079.
I'm not sure how fast it would ship to other parts of the world, but the
advantage we have here in Hong Kong is that we have several airlines which
fly here on a daily basis (bringing in Air Cargo) and as this place is a
free port. we don't have import duities…. so we have no customs hold
ups.

Not yet, Jonathan, before Xmas, claims Commodore. Having played with it,
both my kids want one for Xmas, so I hope it's not delayed.

Don't worry the FMV module is on my list of things to get, my parents
don't know it yet, but they will be getting it for me for my birthday ;^)
Do you know if it comes with some sort of Test disk ? or software to take
advantage of it ? I presume it would (it would be a bit daft releasing it
and having nothing to show it off).
I have spent most of today playing Oscar, it's not my sort of game, but I
have still enjoyed it, and the graphics are superb. I like the way that
when you complete the level, the graphics totally change (under the same
theme). My favourite theme has got to be the WAR theme, there is some
excellent graphics in that.
Actually the FMV module is going to be a weired on for me, as I don't need
it for the films on a CD… as Laser disc is REALLY BIG out here (even
though it's NTSC…. mainly as everyone out here buys Multi system TV's).
Maybe I'll switch formats…. who knows, I suppose I will have to wait
till I see whats available.

Since the disks conform to a standard, there should be stuff available by
the time the FMV ships. Philips had previously announced a contract with
Paramount, I think,to produce video-CDs, though why they should have to
sign a contract for something that is going to fit other machines escapes
me.
