Hi everyone again one of my never ending questions. How do I create a real good chrome look for my flying logo… oops I mean for my super detailed starship animation 🙂 🙂 I tried to add several light sources, but still it's exactly what I want. Is the texture in the glogal requester the solution? TIA -David

I use a Global Map of a nice Blue sky with a gradient ground and Louis Markoya's Surface Master CHROME attribute.

This global map is really nice to avoid raytracing. I tried it and it looks quite ok. Just have to do a little fine tuning. What is "Louis Markoya's Surface CHROME"? I used the chrome attribute that came with Imagine. -David

Louis Markoya released a package of ATTRIBUTE files a while back, evcerything from Crystal to Wood, Steel, GOLD,Silver Ruby etc etc…Dunno if it was ever ported to the IBM/Clones tho. Tho if you buy it I'm sure yer Local Dealer can copy the ORIGINAL Disks to IBM formatted disks for ya.

buying object attributes? Are you kidding? Why should I pay for a set of 8 numbers? -David

Why should you spend $20 on a set of #'s???? Think of how much Screwing around you've already done. Figure how many hours you've wasted so far just trying to get the Chrome to look right then think about the $20 Cost of Surface Master. I'm sure after thinking about it you'll see that $20 is a BARGAIN.

Maybe you are right. OTOH I have to make my own experiences with the attributes (and of course other things). If I could just go into a store and get it there I would buy it, but I don't want to spend $20 extra for shipping to Germany. -David

David, what can I say? Attributes may just be a set of 8 RGB values, but the time and tweaking needed to get a decent set is the reason why some people will pay for them. "Buying bread? Are you kidding? Why should I pay for some flour and water?" Blaq!

Charles, see my message to Peter about buying attributes. -David

On thing I've found that works well when working with metals in the detail editor is to add a ground. When you do a quickrender the ground and the background color will reflect in the metal and give you a bit better idea of how it will look in the final render. :^)

>> adding ground good idea. I still have to make more experiences with Imagine. Thanks -David
