#NEC 25 CDROM Drive

I have an Amiga 2000 with a GVP Series II controller loaded with 8M RAM, of
which, only six is active due to that lovely restriction of commodore
bridgeboards. The controller houses a Quantum 240 ProDrive. I used FastPrep
to prep, format, and partition the drive (a real pain because of the
paradoxical and poorly documented user interface).
I connected an NEC external CDROM drive to the controller and, of course, it
did not recognize it. I've tried several methods to mount it and even
termination, although the drive has internal termination. Several device
numbers were also used. Fastprep puts it on screen but as with just about
everything else I've connected to the controller, it ghosts it out instead of
mounting it.
Any Suggestions?

What are you using for a file system with the CD-ROM? Sounds like you
don't have one.
CD-ROMs will not work out of the box; they need something like AsimCD, or
Xetec CD-FS.

Suggestion: Get a CD-ROM filesystem to use with your CD-ROM drive.
Released versions of AmigaOS don't include one. Same situation as with
using tape drives. There are two or three third party filesystems.

If your problem DOESN'T turn out to be a need for a CD-ROM filesystem
driver file, try removing ALL termination from the NEC external CDROM
drive. That was the only way we could get our external floptical to work
on the GVP controller.
