"Picture Publisher 4.0 for Windows NT
Nothing slows you down like manipulating a 20MB graphics image or two in
Windows. But Micrografx wants to give you — yes, give you — a version of
Picture Publisher that picks up both speed and versatility by operating in the
32-bit, nonpaged memory environment of Microsoft's Windows NT. You'll be able
to take advantage of NT's command multithreading as well as true multitacking
while you cut-and-paste between images or perform electronic darkroom trricks
on scanned photos.
A caveat:Only those with at least a 486DX2/66, 32MB of memory, and a
half-gigabyte of disk space need apply for this public beta program. (free;

Will this program run on the Alpha platform from DEC!

I only copied the article from PCComputing for the benefit of all. I can't
directly answer your question, but Gus asked the same thing. I suggested that
he call the 800 number and find out.
My thought is that since NT will run on the Alpha and this runs within NT that
it should. But that is only a guess.

Sounds like they expect to sell a lot of programs to me! <g>

You won't be able to load NT with less than that to begin with. This is a NT
product. By the time NT becomes something other than a curiosity, 32M/1G will
be standard (regardless what OS we will be running) (it's already the standard
around here if you think about it).
I remember the same comments when I first got Autocad. It required a full 640k
in my brand new XT and I only had 256k. Had to by a 384k expansion unit and it
costed me close to $1k!.

Sure you can. Most NT users I know say you can load in 12, runs okay in 16,
prefers 24. 32 megs? Okay for CAD users, I'm sure, but as a _mass market_
product, the Micrografx product isn't going to make it, imho.
Richard (Horror stories? How about 18k for our first full featured AT class CAD
station…soon AutoCAD may cost that much. <g>)

I know what you mean, I won't be beta testing this one either, but I have to
agree with Gus. I've bought my share of expansion boards for the cost of a
modern computer. I just hope I can catch up once again.

For us CAD users that's not unreasonable, but for the person I perceive using
such a product, well, the market is going to be minute for a long time. By the
time those machines are commonplace on desktops, we'll be waiting again for the
next best thing.
