Lens flare over video ?s

Jim, you won't be able to do a straight luminence key on the ampex with that.
Assuming you can sync-roll the decks, your best bet is to render your image on
one tape and a matte image on another and use that matte signal as key
information on your switcher, may require some re-patching of the matte signal
deck. It's also preferable to render your animation (not the matte) over a
light color, or one similar to the video over which it will be keyed, not
black, if you're using this method. Of course this ties up two decks and on a
live shoot this can be verboten. Is this live TV? Do you have access to an
Abekas DDR or an InFiNiT?

Michael,
Thanks for your help, I'll try keying over white and see if that helps. If
not, I'll have to wait until next week and try it on our new AVID that's being
installed today.

the AVID should be able to take the separately generated key (matte) channel
and do a PERFECT key, good luck!
