I am having significant difficulties properly aligning complex 3d mesh files in the editor or keyframer. Here is the problem: I have all of the bones in the foot, 26 to be exact each bone is a separate mesh file. I load one bone and then merge the others and try to position them exactly in relation to one another. Because of the complexity of the meshes I am unable to align them in their proper position. How can I accomplish this? How does the place.pxp Ipas routine work and will it solve my problem, and are there any ipas routines out there that will do it such as scatter? Thanks Samuel Coor Medical Media

Scatter will let you align things pretty well, because you can select a set of faces, and then you can control the pivot and alignment transformation. Without you using it for that specific task, it would be impossible to tell. (Place certainly won't do it.) Maybe you could convince Mark Meier the make a version of KBDTRF.PXP that'll load two objects at once into an interactive alignment window. (Mark? You've already got 90% of the code done, and the interactive rendering library we just uploaded would be perfect for it.) – G

I can certainly try scatter, but your second option sure sounds the best. Hopefully he is listening. Thanks Samuel Coor

Gary, <<Maybe you could convince Mark Meier to make a version of KBDTRF.PXP that'll load two objects at once into an interactive alignment window.>> I downloaded the interactive renderer as soon as I saw it was available because I knew it would be irresistible to incorporate somewhere. Thanks to the YG for generously making this available. Do you (or anyone else reading) have any ideas about how this "Alignment Window" might be implemented (Design/Concept/UI wise)? I can't guarantee I'll have time to do it, but as you know I'm into precise alignment of objects <g>. I'd appreciate any ideas from anyone. Mark

It sounds like Sam has some motivation for working on the design spec with you, Mark. And if you're truly up for it, I'm sure that Jack and I could spend some time discussing it with you. Email your phone number to me and we'll give ya a call when we get a chance. Thanks! – G

If I can help in any way let me know, I would sure love to get that completed since most of what I do is medical and it needs to be precise. Thanks again Sam

It sounds like Mark is ready to take up the challenge! Give him a shout… Get together with him and surprise us… ! – G

Sam, We understand your problem with the bones in the foot, as we have done similar work with a subluxation of a cervical vertabra (way back in release 2.0). We spent alot of time selecting faces, and using the color of the selection sets to help with aligning the objects. Pretty tedious work :> The alignment tool you and Gary are dreaming about sounds great! Please let us know how it goes, and if we can be of any help with the design interface.
