#3DS File Management

Hi to All,
My partner and I are considering creating a Project/Images/File/Network
management system for 3ds. I would like to list out the current ideas that we
have for this system, and welcome ALL suggestions.
3DS File Manager
1. Add text descriptions to all files. (3ds, prj, or images)
2. Create, Delete, Move – single or groups of files or directories
3. View all images, flics
4. Image conversion
5. Batch conversion
6. Geometry conversion
7. IFL Builder
8. Network rendering reports (Network rendering performance)
9. Archive files and maps
We do understand that many of these already exist in 3ds. What we are trying
to accomplish is a single program to handle these functions easier. We are
thinking of this as a front end to 3ds. You could start 3ds by picking in the
3ds or prj file. Would it be better or worse if we made the program as a stand
alone, or as a ipas? We would like all comments from everyone on what you would
like to see in the package.

Make it IPAS and a Windows based stand alone. (I mean why not go full hog!) I
think you can get the MCS file format from the Yost Group and build a 'remote'
Net Queue editor/viewer.

I really hopey you pull this off. Like Jamie said, IPAS and Windows stand
alone would be ideal.

I'd like to see you embed postage stamp preview images into 3DS and PRJ files.
Also consider some sort of "last-revised" data by object in a 3DS file (perhaps
you could implement this by a comparison between the file at start-up and the
same file at saving/exiting.) If revision data were embedded into a file by
entity, it would allow for file comparisons between "versions" and allow
merging between projects of only those items modified before or after a certain
date.
Another natural extension of revision data, would be report generation of
changes made in an edit session. (ie. "Revisions saved: 01Sep94 03:33,
Object01:scale,position Object03:morph,position etc….) This can help
automate what many of us do now by hand in a notebook for project tracking and
time management reports.
Re: program implementation, I also feel that it should be some combination of
IPAS routines and a Dos or Windows launcher/manager.
