Gary 1> Thanks for the Phar Lap – Swap file info I was really thinking it was my fault some how.Exiting and returning works! Thanks. 2> Is there a way to "ungroup" an object that has been formed by the Create/ Object/Copy command? In the case of a copied object with lots of pieces, Element/Detatch is just too tedious for a "Slice and Dice" operation when it comes to taking the new object apart. 3> Sometimes after performing a Boolean Command where I cut a block shaped hole into a larger block I am left w/ a small triangle of surface material that doesn't show up on the mesh but after rendering it's there. What causes this? Can it be prevented? 4> In creating architectural models in 3ds3 I've gotten pretty good but what I'm having problems with is that over the course of a job parts of the mesh become Rotated by very small amounts or out of alignment. What am I doing wrong? 5> I'm getting a set of messages at render setup, either "No Ram for Rendering Mesh Data" or "No Ram for Bitmap". I have 32mb Ram. What am I missing? Any help is appreciated, Gary

Jonas is still out of town, so I'll cover for him. The only way (outside of an IPAS routine) to detach elements is to manually detach each one. If you're having problems with booleans, try tessellating the geometry and then re-booleaning. The boolean op depends HEAVILY on the correct amount of tessellation. There's no way, in the Editor for pieces of your mesh to automatically rotate "out of alignment". You'll have to give us a specific step-by-step way of reproducing that if you want a specific comment. Re "out of RAM messages"… those can occur if you run out of Swap file space on your hard disk. It sounds like your scene has gotten larger than 32Mb to render. If you've got lots of space on your hard disk available, it could mean that your HD controller isn't talking to Phar Lap. (or, are you using an ifl file with more than 1000 frames, by any chance?) – G

Hi Gary, I just saw this message about out of memory errors, and I wondered about the IFL problem. Last week I was trying to use a large IFL file in VP, and got a memory error message. What are the limits? Does it help if I create multiple IFL's in sequence? Will this still be a problem in rel 4? Thanks, -Roger

Gary's out for a few days, but if your using an IFL with over 1000 frames and getting a memory error, then it is a bug in r3. This will be fixed in r4, but in the meantime just break your scene down and only use IFL's with less than 1000 frames, and you should be ok. David
