Me too – I'd like to learn about how to POE [i poco a bit now] I'm unfamilar
with publication –
how where to subscribe – how much etc? any special tricks or neat code
fragments can often be useful!
I get a lot out of down loading the stuff you've already contributed I
have a few bit (or bytes) that I'm trying to upload – if I can ever get them
up- very frustrating –
also a list of what programs are available , your comments & relative
utility might be helpful –
really not clear why poco didn't take off – but I think it may just be
slow in starting, plus doesn't get the AutoDesk backing that the other
extentions get.
any way – very kool & keep on tooning

See my (disappointing) reply to Dave.
<Im unfamilar with publication – how where to subscribe – how much etc?>
It's "the official guide to Autodesk Multimedia"
toll-free number for ordering: 800/441-4403 (ext. 362).
$59.95 for one year (6 issues)

OK
<I have a few bit (or bytes) that I'm trying to upload – if I can ever get them

I found that to be the case with my first uploads.
WinCim works pretty well for uploading. I prepare the keywords, description,
etc. beforehand and then use "paste." Even though Edit/Paste is not available
when uploading, you can use "shift-insert" for pasting.

I initially found POCO frustrating. It took me a while to learn where it could
be useful. For a long time I avoided POCO. It seemed that every time I started
on a program, I couldn't finish it. There was always an action that
had not been made available (or had to be done in an entirely different way).
For example:
1. I wanted to create a menu for selecting tools. Couldn't
find the equivalent of "SetInk()" for tools.
2. I wanted to write a POCO program to paste a cel so that its
upper-left corner was in a certain spot. Maybe, there's a
way, but I gave up.
3. I needed to "clip" the entire flic within a POCO program.
I couldn't find an easy way to do it in POCO. ("CelClip()"
requires user intervention, "CelGet()" requires that I specify
the bounding coordinates.)
4. I thought I might get around these problems by using recorded
macros to replace the missing functions. Guess what. There
is no POCO function for reading macro files.
And then there are a few bugs. I've come accross these:
1. Use of "if (something) continue" inside a loop resulting in an
infinite loop.
2. Use of "float" in arguments causing problems (I have to check
but I think a value of 0 was always passed). Now, I only use "double."

But, Ed, if I understand you correctly you do have this now, right? 🙂 -dave

Nope. I think all I found was that POCO could tell me where the center of the
cel was.
I didn't see any straight forward way to determine the coordinates for a
corner. I didn't
find a function that would return the size of the cel either.
You make it sound like I might have missed something. Did I?
Ed K.
ed I found a way to determine XY size of cel Use GetScreenSize() page 63 for
the cel screen… then do a bit off simple math wtih the center and you can
paste corner where ever .
if this is vague I can send you some code fragments via what ever dave

Great! You found the missing function for getting the cel-size! I'll add it to
my tips.

What are you uploading?

A function to draw grad poly-lines – works for showing flow in pipes etc.
works sort of like VGRAD or HGRAD, Or Radial Grad, except lines can
go around corners & at angles etc. also does color cycling for you
I have a delux version I am working on that has enhanced features
– does 2 different color groups & smooth transition between them –
– this would be useful for showing "cool" fluid flow in and Hot out.
– still in pre Alpha testing – if you know what i mean
yep! I think I'll give wincim a try – my wife uses it – I just haven't been
dragged into the 90's & windows yet… (don't you just hate those cutsie
icons?) any way…
I've had simular frustrations… I "invented" a replicant of "Spray"
just to see if it would work in an effect I was trying [it didn't] also
discovered that turtle graphics has a nasty way of not going 100% straight . 1
pixel side step.. hope to get stuff up loaded soon – if you see it and are
interested would greatly appreciate your feedback.
thanks much dave Wright – Wyeknot, inc
