Wolf, What is the BJC4000? As yet we have not had any info in the UK regarding this machine. It's obviously colour, but what paper size(s) does it take, whats it's resolution, is it faster than older/competitive models? Plus any other info would be useful (including price, even if it is in DMs) TIA Kevin Flying AutoPilot from Surry in the UK

The BJC4000 is a DIN A4/US Letter sized ink jet color printer. And yes, the printer was announced by Canon Uk last week (I was visiting Canon in the UK last week so I'm sure…). The printer was at least released in the US, UK and Germany. Please look into the Canon forum here on CIS for details. The printer is cheaper than the BJC 600. The BJC4000 can be configured in two ways: – a color printer – a greyscale printer In case you use the color setup, the printer has 360*360dpi and two ink cartridges (K and CMY). The printer offers good b/w and text prints, however, when it comes to color, the printer is slower than the BJC4000 and doesn't offer the same quality (but VERY close to the BJC600). When it comes to black printing, the printer is VERY VERY VERY fast and using the black ink head, you can use a sort of RET technique to smooth edges (driver allows enabling/disabling this feature as it has an impact on print speed). So using the smooth feature you can get nearly 720*360 quality. Just to give you an impression: you should have no problems printing several pages per minute. — Wolf Faust, Am Dorfgarten 10, 60435 Frankfurt, Germany —

Wolf, Thanks for the info regarding the BJC4000, it seems strange that we launch a new printer and I don't get to know about it! Yes, I work for Canon (UK) but not the printer division, I look after the CLC controller division for dealers in the SE of the UK. As a general rule the divisions don't talk to each other unless we've got a big show (which we have; Live '94) comming up! My BJ300 is just about on it's last legs, so perhaps the BJC4000 is a good machine to upgrade to, you say that it's fast, is it as fast as the BJ300 in throughput? Kind regards… Kevin Flying AutoPilot from Surry in the UK

Yep, I know about the fair in the UK (actually through Canon). But well, as I don't get correct info from the CLC division – why should they get any info either… well… that's the usual problems with BIG companies. Nobody knows everything… The BJC 4000 is MUUUUUCH MUCH faster than the BJ300 or – let's say – Deskjet 5×0. But this only applies to greyscale printing. — Wolf Faust, Am Dorfgarten 10, 60435 Frankfurt, Germany —
