#Boot Problems with 4000

By mistake I booted up my Amiga 4000 with a Dos disk in the floppy drive. Now
when I try to boot up the workbench screen and icons appear but the pointer
won`t appear–it stays the clock. There is a Video Toaster in the machine so
English repair people will not look at it. Other than disconnecting everything
and hoping it will work, is there anything I can do. The machine has been
travelling a great deal but did boot up once after the most recent journey. Any

Possible answer.
A4000s that travel a lot have a problem with the CPU card coming loose.
Open up your case… (with the power off of course) and press firmly on
the CPU card careful not to damange anything.
It probably is loose.

Christie, booting your Amiga with a DOS floppy can have no effect on your
4000 whatsoever. Whatever is making it fail simply came up at the same
time by coincidence. Try to take stuff out of the WBStartup drawer one at
a time to see if something in there is hanging it up.

Trying to boot from a MS-DOS floppy cannot possibly harm your Amiga or its
software in any way shape or form. It may leave a bad taste in your
drive's mouth, but it cannot harm it.
You must have done something else or had some other problem.
Try booting from an AmigaDOS floppy. Does that work? Try using the
bootmenu to disable the startup-sequence — can you boot from the HD that
way?
