#270 Meg Syquest

Howdy All:
Wondered if anyone had experience with the new 270 Meg Syquest 3-1/2"
removable media drive. Interested in the SCSI version which I would hook
up to my WARP.
I'm debating whether to go with this new Syquest or the Iomega
Bernoulli 150 Meg. I probably won't be dropping the cartridges out of
airplanes so the greater durability of the Bernoulli is not a major item
for me.
Interested in your thoughts. Thanks.
I bought one of the 270M Syquests a few weeks ago, and I love mine. It is
small, quiet, and works great.

Ever since Spring of '93 when I saw Lee Stranahan demonstrating the
150M Bernoulli he had just received at a seminar in L.A. I've been sortuv
salivating over these large removables. Ironic that now I've come to the
point of ordering and I notice these even larger Syquests. Fleeting are
the techno edges.

These little Syquest drives are very neat, and work extremely well. And
the cartridges are around $70-75, I think. I saw a 2-cartridge package at
a local computer store the other day for $149.

I understand that you have a 270MB Syquest. I have an 88MB 5-1/2
HD, and always found the noise of it spinning distracting. Have you any
comparison between the 5-1/2" version and your new drive (noise-wise)?

I just got an external 270 meg Syquest and it doesn't make as must noise
as my internal Seagate (real old) or Maxtor (rather new) drives.

Robert….I'm very interested in the 270 Syquest but can't find a SCSI
version….where did you get yours?

I've seen them at CompUSA and at ComputerCity – but I ordered mine. They
were just as cheap here – but I got mine a couple of weeks before they
arrived here.

I've never used the 88M version, but I cannot hear the 270M one at all. I
have to feel it, or look at the lights to tell it is on. I do hear a
little hum when it first spins up, but it's not very noisy – certainly no
worse than any other hard drive just starting up.

I have a SyQuest 270MB (external) and 44MB (Internal) drive. The 270
is very quiet and very fast compared to the 44.
If you have the need and the money I STRONGLY recommend this drive! It
is one of the best purchases I have made for my Amiga.
Dave, I have a Syquest 3270 hooked up to my 3000 and it's great and real
fast. No problems with it at all. I can even boot from it.

I use one in an externel box in order to use it on both A4000 and A500+.
This box is _factors_ larger than the drive itself (which has the size of
a small floppy drive only) – its a shame.
I am very satisfied. 270 MB disks here in Munchen are priced around 140
DM.
On the A500+ I use it as a boot drive. Further, it works with my
GoldenGate 486SLC bridgeboard, but it must not be switched off or
disconnected (what is not acceptable for me), then MS-DOS dedects a
"changed configuration" and will throw _all_ drive setups away. Data are
safe, however.
