#3.1 rom and a3000

Have anybody installed the 3.1 on an A3000 and what chip goes in what
slot…plus how do you get it to recognize the internal hard drive….

If you have a normal set of sockets on the motherboard (i.e. not a tower set)
the ROM0 goes in the ROM1 socket and the ROM1 goes in the ROM0 socket….i.e.
in reverse order to common sense. If you had a harddrive before, just insert
the 3.1 diskettes and it will take care of everything. The standard easy
install seems to do everything correctly eventhough I went through it using a
custom setup…which in the end was probably the same as if the install did
everything itself. If you have a new HD, you will have to use the HD tools to
setup and format the drive. The HD tools program is quite good so you
shouldn't have any trouble using it. But come back to the forum if you have
other questions.

As I don't have my A3000 yet (waiting for it to come) I can't try it.. However
my friend just got the 3.1 roms and first he put them in according to how they
read on the mother board… At first that didn't work, then he swutch the roms
and he only got a black screen… He then changed the roms back and it
worked… So it did work when he put them in just as the mother boaard is
labeled… When I get my A3000 I will try that too.. I don't know maybe he has
a newer motherboard..

If you follow the directions that come with the WB 3.1 ROMs the directions tell
you the correct socket numbers to put them in. These Uxxx numbers are correct
as stated in the directions, but the lower numbered ROM goes into the higher
numbered socket which has the higher ROM number also, and visa versa. I
haven't heard that this situation changed with newer motherboards or that they
even made a newer motherboard. Maybe someone else can tell us if the numbering
was changed on other motherboards.

Scott, I have an old 3000 and I had to reverse mount them, as per the
instruction sheet. I also had to reverse mount them on my 4000, which the
instruction sheet did not say one way or the other.
