Jan: Let us know how you do installing AMax IV when you get to it. It seems that there are a strange number of stories here with nothing being consistent. I would like some success stories in this forum and how the person did it. I will add my success story or failure once it get my HD floppy. Regards, Norm

Norman, Hopefully I'll get my HD drive tomorrow, but I don't think I'll get new AMax software till next week. Doesn't the HD have to be Df0:? But then my reg floppy could be df1:, right? I sure want this to work!!! 3.1's color scheme is subtly nicer with black text on a white background for window titles, and it seems the blues and greys are brighter(?) So far zero problems. Oh, PPage 4.x needs to be in 8 color mode screen (not 16) or else I get "ghosts" of requestors. Black and White, too, I think. Jan

Jan: << Doesn't the HD have to be Df0:?>> That's what I have heard on the forum. It seems it has to be first or it won't work. It this stage I am not certain how you achieve that if you add an external floppy drive. Certainly on internal ones you only have to swap the positions on the cable. I certainly have had no problems with 3.1 up to this point except I can't get an AMax II or IV going. I am hoping it is just an incompatibility with System 6.0.x, but soon I hope to know when I try to get System 7 on the harddisk. The screen looks good and it does operate faster. There a few differences which I have to work out after renaming my system partition to WB 3.1 ( some of the software is still looking for the WB2 partition). Just need to find the time to clean up the little bits. Regards, Norm

Norman, I didn't have to rename my system "WB 3.1". My system partition is named "System" (on dh0:). All my user-startup assigns are to my volume names, and I've had no conflicts or anything missing with OS 3.1. I had AmaxII+ going for a while last year. With system 6.(05?). Then 'something' happened involving an external scsi hd, and Amax would crash almost immediately AND the errant hd died. Other scsi hds worked (on the Amiga side), this one just died. AMax never worked after that. Then IV came out, got it, got System 7.1 on lo-density disks, no go. Tried an install on a syquest, using that as a boot disk, but that didn't work. I gave up. I had other stuff to do 8-)). Here's wishing us both luck! Jan

Jan: I had my partition named "System 2" because I installed both WB 1.3 and WB 2.04 when I changed to WB 2.04. I had no problems when I upgraded from AMax II to AMax II+ (i.e. installed the AMax board and software AMax 2.5). However, after loading WB 3.1, I could not get AMax II+ or AMax IV (i.e. chip changed on AMax II+ board and software v 4.0) working. The fact that I could not get AMax II+ to run after installing WB 3.1 makes me very nervous about getting AMax IV up and running after I get a HD floppy. I am just not certain if AMax 2.5 software is compatible with WB 3.1. Does anyone know the answer to this question? If it is, then I think I really am in trouble! Regards, Norm

Norman, I'm assuming 3.1 is compatable with AMaxIV. I "think" Doug at ReadySoft told me it was Monday when I spoke to him. I don't know about AMax 2.5 being compatable with 3.1 though. I'm going to need to call again this Monday, because today I installed a HD floppy, successfully. So I thought I'd check out re-installing the AMaxIV board. Couldn't get amy to boot up. Stopped cold at a greenish screen and just stayed there. That was with the floppy connection to the board. I should have tried just seating the board in the slot, and NOT making the floppy connection, too, I guess. But that seems wierd. The saga continues. Jan

Jan You said in a reply to Norman Hamer that you need PPage 4 in 8 color mode to work. I'm getting "ghosts" of requestors but I cant seem to be able to get PPage to go into 8 color mode. I would be grateful for any help you can give. -Gary Gary Giles Yap Yap all the way from the UK Via Autopilot

Gary, In PPage, go to "Preferences/Screen Mode". I choose NTSC:High Res Laced. (I'm using a flicker fixer.) Then I choose 8 color. Close out of that and it should work. News Flash!! I just tried this, and it seems to keep going into black and white, 2-color!? I don't get any requester ghosts, but I don't think I wanna work in bw! Hmm. I'll have to see how this feels for a while.
