I'm having a strange problem going to a dos window from 3dsr3. While at a dos prompt I get a command prompt but I'm not able to get back to 3dstudio bt typing exit. Instead i get a message that says "3DSTUDIO IS STILL ACTIVE"???? Even if I start 3d studio with 3dshell I get the same problem. Before trying to get back in top 3dstudio though, above the comand prompt there is a message saying that my vesa driver is functionoing and that my MSCDEX driver is loaded-if this means absolutely anything to you. It is tedious to restart all over again because of these circumstances. I s there a fix??

Hi Steven, << "3DSTUDIO IS STILL ACTIVE"???? >> I can recreate this by, executing 3ds, shelling to dos and the at the dos prompt typing 3ds (again).. Do you by chance have a bat file called exit that calls 3ds from within it? jonas[adesk]

Thanx once again. Could you be a tad more specific as to how the *.bat file can be executed? Do I create a *.BAT IN THE 3Dr3 DIRECTORY?

Stephan, Haw do you start 3DS? What do you type? Reboot your computer. Start 3DS F10 (to go to dos) when in DOS… type 3ds.exe You should see your 3DS still active message.. jonas[adesk]

UH, maybe you don't understanad what I want to do. The problem is that I cannot get back into 3D-STUDIO once I supposedly exit temporarily to a dos window. How do I get back into the program? Typing 3ds.exe merely gets me the 3DSTUDIO ACTIVE message….and then nothing

Stephen, Typing EXIT should return you to an active 3DS session when you have shelled to DOS. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

Stephen, PMJI, << The problem is that I cannot get back into 3D-STUDIO once I supposedly exit temporarily to a dos window. How do I get back into the program? Typing 3ds.exe merely gets me the 3DSTUDIO ACTIVE message….and then nothing >> you re enter 3DS by typing exit at the dos prompt. Mark Yankee

Once more, I cannot just type 3Ds IN A DOS WINDOW TO RETURN TO 3DSTUDIO. sOMETHING IS WRONG. i JUST GET A MESSAGE THAT says 3DSTUDIO IS ACTIVE and then I'm still in the dos command prompt. I repeat i cannot type exit to return to 3dstudio. Does anyone know what I'm talking about.?

You just said two things: First "I cannot just type 3Ds IN A DOS WINDOW TO RETURN TO 3DSTUDIO…" Second: "I repeat i cannot type exit to return to 3dstudio." If you shell out to DOS from 3ds, you get a message that says to type exit to return to 3ds. If you type "exit" you should return to 3ds. If you type "3ds" you get a message that says it's already running. Now… From what I recall of your original message, you shell out to DOS from 3ds, and then when you type "Exit" you get the message that 3ds is already running. Right? If this is the case, something is definitely wrong in your system. This is not a problem I've seen anyone else describe. Nevertheless, there are two things you might try: 1. Look all over your hard disk for a file called "exit.bat." I don't know why it would exist, but it's about the only thing I can think of that might cause this problem. 2. Before even running 3ds, try typing "exit" and see if any TSR or something is out there waiting for the command. – Jack

Hey Jack, he keeps mentioning a DOS Window…Do ya think he originally started 3DS under Windows? -Alan

I didn't think that was possible. Maybe it's time to ask for a _complete_ description of the problem. – J
