Chris,
Freelance is definitely a large part of the market, but you'll find more and
more opportunities available to you, even in the world of civil egr., as time
goes on. That is how I found my way into this business. Our company is doing
architectural visualization, and legal animations. One of our biggest concerns
in finding employees has been to find folks who really have an unquenchable
desire to do this kind of work. Gary's suggestion to put together your best
work on a demo tape is right on the mark. Learn all you can in the next year,
and look for User Groups in your area. 3D Studio Users Groups are a great
place to meet potential employers and contacts.
Good Luck,
Rich Walsh – The Ayres Group
Rich,
Thanks for the advice. I think that my first few practice projects for myself
will probably be architectural, since I have a civil background. I will get
some house plans, draw up a model in Autocad and then do some walk-throughs
with 3D Studio.
I will probably contact the local Autocad users group next month. I wanted to
get a bit more familiar with 3D Studio first.
Thanks again,
Chris
