Yeah, you knew it. Who in this forum could be behind such a thread title!?
Well, here is krazy Ana with the news of the month, things that could change
the way you see computing and graphics, things that will change your life, news
that will fulfill your senses and mind, food for your brain, stunning
information… yhm, err, well, you know, the usual comment that may start a 224
messages thread with 128 different topics on it <bg>
Last night, Headline News, a Part of the Cable News Network <g>, a guy with a
PowerBook 5xx was presenting the program. The news:
Apple, to license its Macintosh System Software and hardware designs to
selected companies. Ok, ok, so everybody knew that this was about to happen but
it finally really happened 🙂 The agreements will start to take place in 1995
second half… just with the Windoze 95 launch. The companies, not announced.
My guess: IBM, Acer and Compaq or Dell. The news didn't talk about PowerOpen,
but it is supposed that the IBM/Apple version of Unix will be also licensed to
all the PReP manufacturers. What does this mean, ladies and gentlemen? Another
choice to add to the lottery. And a serious thread to M$. Apple new PMacs'
prices have dropped again.
Meanwhile, IBM announces the delay of their PowerPersonal systems. New date,
January/February 1994. Reason: OS/2 for PReP must be ready to "transmit" the
new way of computing IBM is evangelizing with their next generation systems.
Human centering computing, or how to put on a IBM system what is already on
Macintosh and Next with a few more bells and whistles.
Out of Headlines, Truevision says that they are not planning any OS/2 support
(now I have to say, thanks god). Their "32bit" operating system of choice won't
be NT. It will be Chicago aka Windoze95 aka Windows 4 (now I have to say, no
thanks 🙂 Fortunately for me, they are going to release the T2K for the Mac 😉
Fortunately for everybody, the recently inaugurated desktop video market in the
PC, is starting to interest disk drive makers to release new RAID systems for
use with real time video playing, non linear editing, etc. BTW, I have been
reading mags and watching a few demos of Mac desktop video systems, and I am
amazed. This guys are far beyond anything currently existing in the PC world.
Indeed, in my ignorance, I think that the PC had the advantage over the Mac
world with things like the PAR, the MAX and the T2K. It seems that I was wrong.
BTW, anyone has any experience with the new Abekas Diskus (?) for desktop
systems?

Have you seen "Brice" the Vistapro like lanscape generator for the MAC?
the Render is truely fantasic! I think the more we think we have the best
the more we are going to be let down. It is our job as artist to push the
software and hardware to new extremes.

I am looking myself to get KPT Bryce. The PowerPC version is about to be
released, so I am just waiting for it. From what I have seen and experience in
CompUSA (they have it in one of the Macs) the program is really great. A must
🙂

I called HSC and the port will be out for the PC in 5 months. This program is
the
VERY first time I had MAC envy. I have seen some very nice renderings made
with the MAC, but I can not stand the OS or the have a nice day like look.
I think if I would get a new computer it would be a Indy. But not as the only
one I owned.

Yeah, Macs have a have a nice day look and the Indigo magic doesn't, right?
Maybe NextStep has a Cheers! look for you <g> Seriously, I thought that Macs
were kind of dumb too. Their box designs were great, their look impressive. The
OS spoke for itself. You didn't need training to use it and all that stuff. But
I though… mmh, they don't have power. THey are weak. No way. They have the
most powerful GUI I have ever seen. And System 7.5 on a PowerMac 8100 is just
awesome.
For good, all the next generation GUIs are based on the Mac. Way to go.

Well if only the mac OS had a dos shell like the let say like the Amiga. I
think I could have one at work. I like a windows like OS but I find my self
useing the shell
even in Unix.

No I have not had to use the mac in production <g> The Amiga had the best of
windows and dos too bad we can't port the OS or can we? Brandon

Yeah I still have a 3000 languishing at home for lack of good current software.
It gave me my start in 3d now it makes a nice book end.

That is in response to the Amiga OS as haveing a Dos Shell [not used on the
Mac] and haveing windows [like the Mac] the question is could anyone port the
Amiga OS to dos? Yes I know who would whant to ect ect.. But I know a alot of
people who still use it. and love it. i had to buy two Pcs just to keep up <g>
