Wondering if anyone else experiences this, and what the fix might be. I have an animation that uses several IPAS routines.. Flare,Flame, star2,glow, etc. I'm rendering on a 486/66 with 32mb ram. I've never had a problem before, but every time I try to render this anim, I get a total crash with cryptic msgs like .. abnormal program termination, page frame bla bla bla. Help, anyone? TIA, Adam Stern

If you have some sort of reliable case that crashes the system, you can try to simplify it and archive it up and send it to me. That said, we've done many tests here with many simultaneous IPAS routines happening at once. I doubt the problem has anything to do with the number of simultaneous routines. – G

I don't thinks my system is crashing because of the number of simultaneous routines, but since the added routines add to the overall memory requirements of the render, I think my machine might be locking up. I just tried the same render again, and I got a "pharlap fatal error". I seem to have plenty of room on a de-fragmented hard drive. –sigh– Thanks for your response..much appreciated. Adam Stern

A pharlap error like that is a dead giveaway that something weird is going on with memory management in your computer. (ouch) – G

Yep, I just tried rendering again, and the system crashed to a halt, with red text showing at the top of the keyframer screen that says the following.. "abnormal program termination: Memory protection fault cs:eip =000FH: 0010CD52h" Any suggestions? starting to sweat now…. Adam Stern

I'm basically a hardware idiot, so unfortunately I don't think I can be of much help to you. Perhaps one of the experts here on the forum can give you some ideas. What does your dealer say about it? – G

Adam >> abnormal program termination<< When ever I have a problem like that I try the following 1st. 1) do a chkdsk /f to the your harddisks 2) do a SCANDISK if you have DOS 6.2 … or something like Nortons Disk Doctor 3) make backup files of your *.CFG and *.SET files in your 3DS dir 4) reinstall 3DS 5) copy the *.CFG and *.SET files back 6) try again If that doesn't fix it … then you will have to start chasing your tail abit. I have seen project files .. or .. mesh files get corrupted before and do all sorts of squirelly things. Also make sure that you aren't running out of HDD during paging .. that will also do weird stuff. Ang

Hi Adam, << I'm rendering on a 486/66 with 32mb ram. I've never had a problem before, but every time I try to render this anim, I get a total crash with cryptic msgs like .. abnormal program termination, page frame bla bla bla. >> Sorry to hear that it's still messed up. So the first thing I'd like you to try is to modify your config.sys so that it contains only two lines in it, FILES=# BUFFERS=# Modify your autoexec.bat to, SET PATH=…. ..Load_the_mouse… Now reboot and try your rendering again. What's the behaviour now?… jonas[adesk]
