I was going through the tutorial and can not recreate the same results
as the book for page 6-9.
This is the section where you make the "GH" logo in the gradiant gray box.
I could sucessfully create the box and letters but could not make the
shadow using the dark ink tool (I assume that dark is the same as dark ink.)
Whenever I pasted the cel it just made the whole gradiant box darker with no
hint of a shadow. By playing around with different settings I was able to
see some letters but the background was never correct. I assume that my
"Get" of the letters is not correct or I don't have something set right.
Please advise.

not sure, but sounds like problem may be Clear KEY Color is off .. the K button
should be illuminated refference manual 2-9
or where you are selecting G &H is not on Key color background.
select opaque ink
Cel Move over the button
you should see G &H over – but don't paste!
if not
check color in Key slot is same as background where G&H were made & selected
check Key on
