#Targa 2000?
19 messages in this thread
Martin,
I was just re-reading a thread in which you had an interesting and somewhat
heated <G> debate about the merits of the PAR vs. MAX with John Tissavary. I
was wondering what your opinion was re: Targa 2000? I'm having a hard time
getting the scoop (from actual users) about this board. Somebody must be using
it…right?
Thanks!

Hy there,
Martin is out somewhere in Europe and won't be back 'till the 19th. Just to let
you know so you don't think he's just avoided your question… 🙂
Gus,
Thanks for the artful intercept! Perhaps you are familiar with this board
(T2K)?
Thanks,
Scott Lawrence

Nop. Schlitz…
Two people come to mind though, try Ana (krazy images) and/or Kevin Krell.
Scott,

I just got back from 5 weeks in the computer-free wilderness ….. what's a
Targa 2000? Just kidding, I know what it is. I considered it when I was
shopping for a JPEG card, but quickly discounted it for me. I settled on the
best shipping solution – the PAR. I don't claim to know much about the T2000,
but it seemed to marketed to a slightly different crowd than the PAR or MAX. It
seemed to be a very high-quality Video for Windows card working at only up to
640×480 and didn't have component output. It hard features I don't think I
needed. The suggested data throughputs seemed low. Plus, it was too much money
for my budget ($5995 not including disk). This may have all changed and
hopefully someone with more knowledge will step in.
Welcome back, Martin.

Kevin,
thanks Kevin, I'm glad to be back 🙂
Martin,
And I'd be glad to be gone.

Good twist on my words <G>. Reminds me of a post card somewhere in Europe based
on the old classic line:
"the weather's beautiful, wish you were here"
the humourous postcard says:
"the weather's here, wish you were beautiful!"
Gave me a laugh, anyway 🙂
Martin
Martin:
>> "the weather's here, wish you were beautiful!"
Or the Freudian slip: The weather is beautiful, wish you were her!

Nice one, Greg <G>.
Hey Martin,
You look well tanned and rested<g> BACK TO WORK!
Welcome back,

Ted,
>> You look well tanned and rested<g> BACK TO WORK! <<
tanned – maybe, rested – no. I rarely rest on vacation. I'm getting my rest
back in SoCal before all the work starts again 🙂
>>tanned – maybe, rested – no. I rarely rest on vacation.
IMHO, that's the difference between a "trip" and a "vacation". I took a "trip"
to England, now I NEED a "vacation"!<G>
Good to see we both made it back w/o disaster!
Dave
David,
>> I took a "trip" to England, now I NEED a "vacation"!<G> <<
I'll second that! Why don't you give us a run down of your "trip" – only please
start a new thread in the "Take 5" section to avoid forum etiquette infractions
🙁
Martin,
Thanks for your T2 critique…seems to be the common concensus around here that
the Targa 2000 is inadequate for most animator's needs. It's PAR for the
course! <G>
-Scott
P.S. Hope you had an enjoyable vacation!
Scott,
>> It's PAR for the course! <G> <<
I still recommend the PAR to most folk, unless they already have an Illuminator
Pro framebuffer – in which case you could consider the add-on JPEG board for
that.
Martin,
Everyone here seems to share your enthusiam for the PAR. I think I'll get it &
also the Intel Smart Video Recorder for simultaneous capture of vidio/audio for
multimedia. I can get the PAR, TBCIV, Smart Video Rec Pro and a Micropolis
2217A for less than the cost of the 2000!
-Scott-
P.S. Loved your "L-A-S-E-R" contribution to the Sig '94
reel!

gosh, er, thanks Scott. Glad you liked it 🙂
