#3ds CD Problem

I tried to view the GIF portfollio on my 3ds r3 World-Creating Toolkit CD for
the first time. I can't get it to work right!
I changed to the \SAMPLES directory and typed DEMO. The following text came
up:

The screen then started blinking a light purple color and the text changed to
light colored boxes. The screen then went dark except for the cursor flashing
about a fourth of the way down the screen along the left edge. There were also
20 columns of dashed lines about the size of of cursors which appear to be
scrolling down the screen. The columns appear about 1/2" apart. i.e.,

I hit the spacebar or excape to try to stop it. The screen then goes
completely dark. It's like my computer locks up. I then have to do a warm
boot.
Do you have any ideas on what the problem is? This is the first time that I
have tried to use the World Creating Toolkit. I do not have a sound card. I
don't know whether that would make a difference or not.

Chris,
The program might be conflicting with something else on your system. To see if
that is the case, reboot your computer with only FILES, BUFFERS, PROMPT, and
MOUSE in your start up files. Then try to run the demo again. Does it work?

I went through my config.sys and autoexec.bat files. I typed "rem" in front of
each line one at a time, rebooted each time and tried to run the demo in D:
\samples. I didn't have any luck getting the vgashow to run. It acted just as
I described before.

As you can see, I also have windows on my computer. My CD is D:.
Any ideas?

What you just did shows us that it is not your system set up or a conflict that
is the problem, so the problem must be in your hardware. You never mentioned
what kind of VGA card you have. What is it? Have you tried this with and
without drivers for that card?

I have a Diamond Viper VLB with 2mb vram. My driver version is 2.01. I
remarked out my viperpath statement in my autoexec.bat. It didn't make a
difference.
I will try to get the latest driver version off the Diamond BBS. If you have
any other ideas, let me know.
I did download the eyebro.zip file a couple of days ago. I haven't unzipped it
yet. Could I use that to view the .gif files demo?

Well, it's rare, but there are some cards that just are not supported for that
demo. If that's the case, you can use one of the utilities here on Compuserve
to batch view the images. Like Graphic Workshop for Windows over in the
Graphics forum.
