PAR Scripting Language

Brick Am not presently PAR owner… lack of scripting is one of reasons – presently use AAPlayhi and VTV2000 – very crude – but sort of affordable I use AA script language – and features – and use most of features 1. Nested loop – presently I only go 3 levels max, but never know what next project will want 2. Still images – types of files? 3. pause at Start, End pause a certain frame(s) 4. timed fade in and out to color to still immage to next animation 1st frame 5. Special (user defined) wipes would be cool, but getting basics first – with hooks for bells & whistels I suspect it would be too much to ask for "real" fades and wipes between 2 rolling animations – but the less Post the happier I am (& customers too). 6. Syntax checking for whole script, prior to run, with some useful error messages & help I hate it when I make a multi -mega AA script, and then have to find my typos one at a time by attempting to call up AAPLAYHI, run script, read cryptic error message, write down suspected line # , Get out of AAPlayhi, load up script in Norton Editor, look for problem, fix it (maybe), and repeat process…. oops, sorry whining – maybe I should just learn to type! 7. Random play order. should have include list, exclude list & all options 8. ability to change speed mid animation might be helpful like: 15 fps to frame 20, hold frame 20 for 0.5 seconds, 24 fps to frame 255, …. would help solve some problems fudging timing, and dealing with customers who didn't know exactly what they wanted rendered. 9. I suspect some folks will want sound support – I don't make noises at this time. 10. How much, When? cool! Dave Wright Wyeknot, inc

Thats a pretty complete list! Right now the software is going to include basic nested loops, switching between animations, speed control, etc. There are no provisions for fades unless they are externally rendered. Thats the nasty bit, the cool bit is that some of the new stuff we are working on for Razor and Premiere is looking pretty good so doing fades and stuff is very simple. Anyhow, looks I have to get a copy of the AA manual so I can look at the scripting controls it has, that seems to be what everyone is used to. brick

Brick, >> Right now the software is going to include basic nested loops, switching between animations, speed control, etc. << I'd like to see key input supported in the scripting language. For example, the script would pause and wait for the input of a key, and then allow branching based on the key entered. Thanks. Martin

"I'd like to see key input supported in the scripting language. For example, the script would pause and wait for the input of a key, and then allow branching based on the key entered. Thanks." Key support is already in there. Pause for key, action on key, hot keys. Brick

Brick, >> Key support is already in there. Pause for key, action on key, hot keys. << superb! Thanks for the info. I'm particularly looking forward to .avi file support for editing with Adobe Premiere etc. PS: Nice to meet you (again) at Siggraph 🙂

" I'm particularly looking forward to .avi file support for editing with Adobe Premiere etc." Just a teaser..! This is working fairly well. I am really getting hooked on RAZOR. All of these programs are really geared towards multimedia authoring more than working with real video, but the latest versions of these programs are starting to really move towards real video handleing. Its going to be great! Brick

Brick, >> I am really getting hooked on RAZOR. << I'm going to have a look at that at our next user group (SoCal 3ds/ani). Sounds like it could be a cheaper alternative to Premiere.

"I'm going to have a look at that at our next user group (SoCal 3ds/ani). Sounds like it could be a cheaper alternative to Premiere. " Its actually more expensive! But worth it.

Brick, re: Razor more or expensive than Premiere there's some bundling deals going on right now, which might make Razor more affordable.

PMFJI >>>re: Razor more or expensive than Premiere there's some bundling deals going on right now, which might make Razor more affordable. <<< I am usually up to date on all this stuff, but what is Razor?

Tim, >> what is Razor? << Razor is a "digital video editor for Windows …. you can combine digital video with still images, animation, music and sound effects …. import and export AVIs, FLCs, FLIs, series of BMPs, TGAs, and WAVs." That's a quote from the bundling advertisement in PC Graphics and Video (Sept '94) – they are/were bundling Fauve Matisse (natural media paint package), In:sync's RAZOR, and DIGICLIPS (clip video and music) for $149. 800/898-ARTS. Hope that answers your question. Martin
