#PC-AMIGA exchange
11 messages in this thread
Is it possible to exchange data between PC und Amiga with a nul modem cable?
I have a notebook PC and I need to install from the CDROM which is in my amiga.
The data are too big for a floppydisk and I have no Emulation for dos in Amiga.
Guillemain,
yes, of course this is possible. You need a terminal program on both machines
which is set to the same baus rate, handshaking, and transfer modus.
But there is even a superior way to exchange data through a Null Modem Cable
using a programm called `Twin Expres'.
It is downlodable from the libraries here (TWINEXPR.LHA, lib 5), and the
archive contains versions for both the Amiga and the PC.

Werner,
Thanks a lot.

You can do this (null modem cable) by putting a term program on each machine,
making sure that both terms can support the same protocol. Then, set one to
send and the other to receive, and send the files over just as you would if
uploading them to any BBS, etc.

Yes. Look at TwinEx in the libraries here for software to make it easier.

Guillemain,
You say you want to 'install' software from a CD-ROM on your Amiga to
your notebook via a null-modem cable? If you mean by that you want to copy
software from one to the other…sure. If you mean you want to share the
CD-ROM as if it were attached to the notebook and run an install program on the
CD-ROM disk…then no, you can't do it.

Don,
I could do it with a good dos emulation (I need it for OS/2). Then I have to
network them together ?
The only way, BTW I get the E486 for Emplant in a few days now, so I hope to
get it fixed then.
Thanks.
Guil
Gullemain,
yes…it has to be networked.

Take a look at a new comercial product called Link-It. It's a GUI (Graphic
User Interface) that connect your Amiga and PC via parallel or serial cable.
Software includes both AmigaDOS and Windos version. Retail price is $59.95 and
their phone number is 519-753-6120. Hope this helps.

Michael,
Is there any chance that I could install on my PC from A4's ROM through this
"Link-It" ?
Thanks.
Guil
"Install from A4's ROMS"
I'm not sure what you mean by that, however, you can easily transfer any file
between the PC and Amiga with Link-It.
