I installed a Picasso II on my 2000. The only programs I can't run on it is
Electronic Arts Dpaint,Deluxe Video Deluxe Music,Vista Pro and Brillance. It
seems if the software uses the custom chips it won't work.
Turbo calc,Termite,On The Ball,nImagie 3.0,Diskmaster,Final Copy & Final
writer,Pro Draw Pro Page,Pagestream,Disksalve,Bad,AIBB,Sysyinfo just to name a
few work fantastic at 640×480 to 1280×1064. Course you can't see much at the
higher res bnut the programs run great.
I do miss Brillance as I gave my CD32/sx1 system to the kids.
There should be gfx-card support in the latest DPaint and VistaPro. I think
Brilliance is tied to AGA chips pretty strongly, but might change in future.

The current version of VistaPro (3.05) doesn't handle running on many
graphics boards properly. The next version of VistaPro will support a variety
of boards and shouldn't fall apart on the boards that it doesn't support. The
problem with version 3.05 is that at the time it was released the test in
AmigaDOS for AGA which Commodore recommended always returned false, so I had to
test for library revision instead. Commodore assured me at the time that this
was "safe" as there were no plans for AmigaDOS 3.0 on non-AGA machines.
Unfortunately, most board manufacturers used the latest (>=v39)
graphics.library as a base to work from, so VistaPro thinks that any machine
with a graphics card is an AGA machine and attempts to act accordingly.
Since that time I have found a test which does work, so that VP will not
have fits with libraries >=v39, however this has not yet been released. I am
still in the process of adding code to handle the Picasso, Retina and
Opalvision boards directly. I expect this to be ready sometime in November in
VistaPro version 3.10.

Thanks for letting us know, also is it retina Z3 or 2 or both? Please be 2 or
both, I don't have the money to upgrade to a 3.

I have a Retina 1.1. I am hoping (maybe foolishly) that they maintained
software compatibility with their series of boards. The Retina is the one which
works the best so far. I am going to be asking for testers for the various
boards in a few weeks, so if you'd like to make _sure_ that it works with your
machine… <grin>

Cool very cool. I'm presently stuck rendering VP on my CD32 system as my 2000
does not have a Multisync monitor and there isn't any room on my desk for a 3rd
monitor. I'll probaly buy your dos CDrom version for the files,do you think
they could be read on an Amiga?

Yes, the VistaPro DOS CD files can be read on an Amiga. I will be putting
together an Amiga VistaPro CD (hopefully before Christmas) which will have more
data on it than the current DOS cd does. I am going to take a gamble and
produce a couple of CDs (DS & VP) and hope that the market wakes back up.

I've read where Dpaint5 will not work on the Picasso II.
For productivity the Picasso II is really nice but I need a paint program like
Brillance for it.
Now I have to decide which computer to get rid of.

There are several paint programs that will work with the Picasso. There's TV
Paint, Photogenics, Personal Paint, and XIPaint, at least and there may be a
few more that I'm unaware of. There is also image processing (and some
painting) with ImageFX and Adpro, both of which support the Picasso quite well.
I think both Imagine and Lightwave also work on the Picasso.

You can still use Brilliance, just not in 256 color or HAM8 modes, just as
you did before you installed the Picasso. In theory, DPaintV is supposed to
work with the Picasso, but it doesn't on my machine at all. As a matter of
fact, on my system (A2000/040, Picasso/Opal, OS 3.1 28 megs memory) it only
works in hi-res interlace 16 colors, and then not as well as I'd like. I even
talked to EA when it first came out. They said that the UK branch was doing a
bug fix. Yeah…right…;/

crashes everytime time I click on the Icon.
Sure would be nice if someone would make a reasonable price 15" multisync
monitor.
I did talk to an older gentelman who had his CD32/sx-1 system hooked up to a
45inch SVHS TV. He said the text was really clear.
Mayby I should get one of those,sure would beat 1000 dollars for a multisync

Why a grand? You can get them second-hand, here on the forum, for $200 – $300.

You may have it promoted in Changescreen. Try pulling up Changescreen
(ctrl, alt c) and editing the Brilliance entry to <DEFAULT> instead of whatever
its set at.

You should be able to find a multisync for less than $1000. In any event AT
has contracted for monitors which should be available fairly soon. In the
meantime, with some serious research you should be able to find a decent 15'
monitor for a reasonable price without having to go to a 45 incher!
