#HP Printer on an Amiga
4 messages in this thread
Hi all –
I have a young friend who just typed her whole book into ProWrite on her Amiga,
but she came to realize she only has the driver for the generic 9-pin dot
matrix printer.
Her mom just bought a HP 660c for her own IBM, and they're hoping they can find
a way to print the document on the HP.
Any ideas towards finding a driver that will help her? Hmm would this be a
replacement for the printer.device in S: ? Its been a while since my Amiga
days..
Thanks,
Bri
Brian:
You did not mention which OS version your friend's Amiga has… I am familiar
with 2.0+, so what I indicate may not be useful under 1.3.
The printer driver is selected using the Printer Prefs program in the Prefs
drawer. The location for the drivers is Sys:Devs/Printers. An HP Deskjet driver
came with the OS in 2.0… if it is not there, then try to look for one on the
"Extras" floppy on the original system disks. If that fails, there are a couple
of commerical HP drivers available from Amiga mail-order places, OR you can try
(if your friend's Amiga can get on CIS and download, or if you have one) a file
here on CIS: HPDJ55.LHA, Library 12, which is written for the 550 & 540
printers, but should work OK for 660.
Let me know if any of my info helped out!

Brian,
She almost certainly has other printer drivers available. If she is using the
older OS1.3, she should just call up PREFS, Printers, and go through the list.
There will be at least one HP driver there – maybe not the one she needs, but
it should work reasonably well.
With OS2.04 or later, she should look in Extras:Devs/Printers (I think that was
the name – a disk that came with the OS) for a list. When she find the one she
wants, it should be copied to her Workbench Devs/Printers directory – and that
can probably be installed by just dragging it with the mouse.
If she does not find a driver there – or if you find it easier to just download
one – we have a whole library of printer drivers here in AmigaUser. I know that
there are several for HP printers, possibly for the 660c itself. Try looking
through that library with a Key of either 660c or HP. If you don't find one,
let me know and I'll see what I can find.
Good luck!

Thanks Dave and Betty so far. I'll turn the info over to her and see what she
says. I did grab a couple HP500 drivers last night
