Wayne, go in and edit the default tooltype of the particular file that demands MultiView. Since MultiView is default with the 3.1 OS, you are a bit stuck, but with a bit of cadging around, you can do a workaround. However, you need to know exactly what type of file you are dealing with. If the file is a .guide type file, then you can use the Workbench/Icon/Information menu item after you have selected the icon, and change the default tooltype to Amigaguide. This will work in most cases, although some .guide files have long lines which MultiView automagically reformats. AmigaGuide won't, so you end up scrolling to read paragraphs <sigh>. You can also use a tool such as AG2TXT to turn the beastie into a straight text file which bypasses the whole error prone process and the annoying scrolling problem, if you have a smart text reader. For graphic files, such as IFF's, GIF's, etc, you'll need to change the default tooltype to something like SuperView. In this case, you'll need to download the tool first from the libraries. 2.1 doesn't have a flexible viewing tool. I personally like AdPro, but that's commercial. SuperView is available from the libraries, and it works very nicely for most people, so give it a gander. For sound, the same situation. Ditto animation. Basically, what is going on is that you need seperate tools under 2.1 for each type of file. Under 3.1, it's all handled automagically by MultiView, if you have the right datatype. Here, you need the right tooltype. BTW, you may even want to investigate of the programs out there that allows you to do wholesale tooltype changes, or at least intercept them in flight, for you.
