Hello Bob >> seemed to suggest that WB was an experimental product, for which there is currently no firm development path, and whose market potential is unknown. He said the code behind it was written largely as an exercise in re-training former iron-curtain programmers to write PC code. The primary focus of this group of programmers is now games, and the suggestion is that there are no immediate plans for further development of the product, unless there is a landslide of interest and volume sales. >> Hi, guys. I am Oleg Mishin. For more than three years I was in a charge of the Word Builder project. I must reassure you. The situation with World Builder is absolutely different. This product is not experimental – we were building it for three years with a clear understanding of what we are doing and what is the purpose of the product. While developing it during 3 years we extensevly used it as a tool for creating games. See, for example, Nature Collector Fresh Water Fish edutaninment product by Animatek, see Ice and Fire game, published by Zombie (to appear in few days). The decision to sell WB is rather new but it does not mean that we have no idea of the market of World Builder. Now we completed the version 1.0. In this version we fixed all known to the moment bugs. We have intriduced additional features: 1. Import of Vista Pro DEM files. 2. Field rendering 3. New interface for the Camera path which is more close to 3DS one. 4. Animation of light sources. 5. Possibility to show FLI, FLC files. It is not the complete list of features of WB which we have now and which are under developing. Windows NT version is now under construction, and we consider ways to integrated it with 3DS MAX copmpletely. If you have more questions please mail me mishin@animatek.itep.ru. (Unfortunately, I haven't Compuserve account yet.) May be we have some misunderstanding on the Digimation booth? Because some things you are writing about sounds quite weird for me… Regards Oleg

Oleg – Perhaps I was talking to someone who had no idea of what they were talking about, although they did mention that alot was learned and used in the development of games. Maybe his English was worse than he thought, and for certain, my Russian is alot worse than it was ten years ago <BG>. Of course, it may have been the vodka talking (or listening). I'm glad to hear that World Builder has a clear future. A product with this promising a future should never be stranded in a version 1 release, with all the potential it has for further development. Thanks for the clarification. Bob Weil

Hi Oleg, I'm glad to see you're on the forum, even if indirectly. > 3. New interface for the Camera path which is more close to 3DS one. < > Windows NT version is now under construction, and we consider ways to integrated it with 3DS MAX copmpletely. < You obviously realize the importance of 3DS support. Considering all the effort being put into 3DS compliance, would it not be more efficient to create a 3DS plug-in? — James — Choreo Motion —
