I am mapping black text with white background ontseveral surfaces. They just don't look very good. I have tried using bigger maps and changing the filters. They are readable close up, but quickly lose their sharpness when farther away. What measures can I take to help this?

Peter, How big do you mean by bigger? What resolution are you outputting in? You could try using summed-area filtering and turn the texture blur all the way down. There is even a texture-sharpen setting in the 3ds.set file which you could try adjusting. But aside from that type of fix, what exactly are you trying to do. There's going to be a limit on how far you can pull away from text. Especially if you're outputting on TV, or creating .FLCs. DM

In addition to Daves comments, I have found that certain text, symbols, and whatnot can be easily created in the shaper and brought into the editor as 2D shapes. This way the text gets rendered with 3DS perfect anti-aliasing. I would not do this all the time but when it has to be just right this is the way to go. Of course it depends on how the text is applied also, if the map was spherically mapped, well… Ralph

Peter, The cleanest text application to objects by creating the actual text via 2d shaper & lofter and the booleaning it onto the surface of the obect. This requires making a dup of the object and then subtracting it from the text, inverting the text faces and deleting the unwanted faces. There is an entire write up on the procedure in the library section. You'll have to search; I don't remember the file name. BP
