#AudoCad import
8 messages in this thread
Hi all,
Does anyone know the best way to import dwg of r13? I used ACAD r13 to export
drawing to 3d studio4c1. However, some of the surface of solid were missing.
for example, a box would only show 4 faces. Please help!
Thank you
In short, you will have much more control with DXF export and import. 3DSOUT is
required to export ACIS/Region models and light, cmaera, & material setups.
For the complete answer, check out chapter 11 of "Inside 3DS R4"

Thank you for the suggestions.
I have tried to export with DXF, but all the drawing created with solid
modeling disappeared. I wonder DXF doesn't support the solid modeling yet.

By solid modelling I assume you mean R13 ACIS entities correct? These are
encrypted within the DXF format and not capable of being read without a
liscence agreement. Thus 3DSOUT is your only method.
If you're exporting AME/Designer/AutoSurf models, then you have to create a
mesh representation prior to DXF export.

Using the 3DSOUT command from AutoCAD, you need to adjust the FACETRES variable
before exporting the file. That will generate smoother curves. However make
sure you are using C3 of AutoCAD. I was having all kinds of problems with
3DSOUT until I got to C3 of AutoCAD
Hope this helps

This pertains to "normals" — the direction that the face is pointing. A
quick fix is to apply a 2-sided material. Otherwise, you can
Surface/Normals/(4 options) to flip or unify your normals manually.
