I'm having difficulty with animated mattes on a project and I wonder if someone could give me some advice. I'm creating an open to a video magazine for a client which involves a lot of flying objects and textures. The central focus of the open is an animated eye which will blink open and shut. (This is in the back of the scene beneath the flying layers). The problem is that we want to key live video inside the eye's pupil so that everytime the eye blinks, a new scene of video is revealed. I'm trying to figure out how to get an animated matte which I can give our editor which will show only the eye center (the white matte) being hidden and revealed by the animated "lids" while still blacking out all the other objects in the scene. Hopefully this description makes sense. Help! Please!… Bruce

This doesn't sound hard, even to me. I'd just make everything a matte object (Objects/attributes/Matte) except for your eye center. Light it with a completely white 255 light and animate the eye blink, saving the resultant output as your animated matte

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try.

>> I'm trying to figure out how to get an animated matte which I can give our editor which will show only the eye center (the white matte) being hidden and revealed by the animated "lids" while still blacking out all the other objects in the scene << Render again with the eye at 255,255,255 self-illuminated (white). Remove all non-essential objects – make background black – and make all other objects (including eyelids) MATTE OBJECTS (in the object attributes d-box) The scene should render black, with a white eye. Any matte-objects passing in front of the eye will reveal black background, thus appropriately masking the eye. – Dave
