#Cool water bump map
7 messages in this thread
Hi Gang.
I just ran into a neat way to make custom water and I thought some others might
be interested (especially those of us without Noise2_.ixp).
I am needing to animate water filling up in a tank and then spilling over a
weir. I'm not quite there yet, but was immediately halted at creating decent
water in the adjacent tanks and the the one filling up. It was one of those
situations where after trying nine phillion alternatives I said to myself, "I
really need to improve my AniPro skills!".
While messing around in AniP, with cycle draw, I ran into this:
Select the "A" palette (31 color ramp from black-to-white)
Select "C" for color cycle
Set the cursor size to something big (around 32)
Either DRAW or DRIZ., and have fun.
Then set your total frames to 31, right click on the "C" for color
cycle
and render.
Not only can you make great flow paths and splash pools, but the resulting flic
is really wild to watch!
Good Luck,
Chris (PRC-EMI Multimedia Group)
Hi Chris,
<< but the resulting flic is really wild to watch! >>
I always like water uploads.. Any chance you can post a flic using your
technique to ASHOWCASE?

I would love to post something, but my local access is only 2400 baud. This
basically prohibits me from up or downloading anything of significance.
I would like to add, that for the cascading portion, over the weir, a series of
boxes using the IPAS Rain, is beginning to look really nice. A final inverted
"rain" box which is tapered provides a nice splash effect.
Once completed I will see if I can trim it down to just one tank and try to
send something along.
Thanks for you interest,
Chris
Chris:
While it _would_ tie up your computer for a while, CIS charges are suspended
during uploads (ie uploading don't cost you) — however, any charges relating
to connection (ie, CIS charges something like .25/hr for using their leased
lines) are still in effect.
Dave
Good point! I will certainly try to upload some version of the final result.
thanks,
Chris
Chris –
Just so you know – upload time on CIS is NOT charged. The actual time it takes
while uploading is off the clock so to speak. Download time is charged. Have
you tried using a faster node across state lines (if you are in the US)? That
is often less expensive if there is a library file that you just HAVE to have.
Anne
1) I didn't realize that uploading was "off-the-clock". Thanks.
2) I have not tried using a faster node in another location. It is certainly
something to consider. I am still hoping that Helena, MT will make the CIS
upgrade list, sometime!
Thanks again,
Chris
