#frames or fields to T+64
5 messages in this thread
Well folks…after so many messages regarding frames and fields I guess I am
confused.
I want to output flics to VHS tape via a Targa+64 card. Do I render to frames
or fields? (Remember – no fancy single frame recording, no PAR, no Exebyte)
:*?
Thanks,
Carlton
The advice I've had on this is
If your output device (Targa in your case) is capable of outputting fields and
you are using motion – especially motion that comes to a halt – always render
to fields… On the start/stop keys use ease to and from to smooth things out.
If Freeze frame is needed for any reason on the tape just render those sections
as frames and video post them into sequence. You may want to put multiple
copies of a start/stop frame at each end to fade from/to black or whatever
transition
you use.

Carlton,
Given no single-frame, no real-time playback of 24-bit images (via PAR),
then you're stuck with 256-color flics. Just go to .FLC format, you don't get
an option for fields. If you're rendering to .TGAs and then assembling, I'd
still suggest frame rendering to keep down on the amount of info updating from
frame to frame.
