I created a great presentation for my wife in AniPro (gee, I don't really think it looks THAT similar to the tutorial, 🙂 ). At her office they have a PC hooked up to a giant TV in the "presentation room", so we thought no problem. Unfortunately, they are a strictly "Big Blue" office so everything is XGA. I need to run ANIPLAY.exe in 640×480 mode to run the presentation. I have tried everything with no luck. ANIPLAY thinks that the VESA.drv that came with AniPro isn't even a real driver, so that is out, I tried loading XGASVGA and XGAVESA TSRs and then using the SUPERVGA.drv, but it says the BIOS can't set up that mode. All I have left is vanilla CGA and VGA at 320×200. surely someone out there is smarter than me and has figured out how to use ANIPLAY at 640×480 with an XGA card. Any (quick) comments would be greatly appreciated, because if I don't figure it out by Monday, we will be back to overhead projector slides (yeech). Any ideas, guys? Thank you for your support! Dennis

I think that the lasest version of the Universal VESA drivers might support the XGA cards. It's worth a shot. Check out this file: File Info for UNIVBE.ZIP Section: HWare/OpSys/Video Contributor: 73754,103 Size: 390924 Submitted: 9/6/94 Type: Binary Accesses: 130 Title: UniVBE 5.0: Universal VESA BIOS Extension Keys: SCITECH VBE VESA GRAPHICS HARDWARE UniVBE(tm) 5.0 is the Universal VESA BIOS Extension (VBE) driver. It will automatically detect the type of VGA card you have and make it compatible with the latest VESA BIOS standards so that all your games, applications and utilities will work correctly. IT EVEN ALLOWS YOU TO AUTOMATICALLY POWER DOWN ANY ENERGY STAR (DPMS) MONITOR THROUGH ITS WINDOWS SCREEN SAVER! Also includes many other useful features (see UNIVBE.DOC). Previous downloads: 10,145. I DL'ed the file and XGA is conspicuous by it's absence. It looks like this attempts to patch the VESA extensions for VGA cards. It even has a long list of VGA cards that it works with. Unfortunately, XGA is not EVEN VGA – it is completely different, so I don't give it much hope. HELLO – doesn't anyone out there buy Big Blue and have some experience running ANIPLAY on XGA???? PLEASE!!

I used to have an XGA-2 card ( replaced it with an ATI MACH 32) – and you will need to get OEM drivers from another company. XGA will not work with UNIVESA and its VESA drivers do not work in 640x480x256 with Ani Pro. Give a company like Panacea a call. They make drivers for XGA that work with Ani Pro. Judy

Thanks for the info – it looks like buying drivers from Panacea is the only option, but since the presentation is in 9 hours, I guess wifey will be using the overhead projector! Dennis

I was hoping that one of the drivers you can download would have an XGA driver in it. I would swear that there are XGA drivers that put the board into a VESA mode. You might want to check the Graphics Support forum (GO GRAPHSUPP) for that driver. Do a keyword search on XGA and see what comes up. Anything with VESA support should do it for you. If you can't find anything, Panacea has XGA support in their commercial drivers. 603-437-5022 or 800-729-7420. Tell them you are looking for Autodesk Animator Pro drivers for the XGA chip. I know XGA is supported by them, however you have to buy the drivers. -brian

Actually, I found a TSR in the IBM forum that puts the XGA board into a VESA mode, but it isn't "really" in VESA mode, in that it doesn't handshake, so ANIPLAY thinks that it has a 640×480 VESA mode, but when it tries to initialize it the XGA board never responds that it's ready and ANIPLAY promptly bombs! I'll look in the GRAPHSUPP forum, but at this point it looks pretty hopeless. Thanks for the attempt! Dennis
