#Biggest Drive for PAR

What is the biggest size drive you can use with PAR? I've been looking at the
Micropolis AV 9Gb drive and know that it has been approved for the PVR.Will it
work with the PAR? I have yet to purchase a PAR/PVR as I am just starting
out(video "whores" as my partner calls it <g>). We will be doing video editing
w an emphasis on 3D.I know I am going to want to use RazorPro and a a capture
card.
I know that the PVR and NT are going to be the wave of the future but I have
tried to install NT and between the problems I have personally encountered and
the messages on the forum, i am skeptical of using NT. Besides, the PAR boards
are cheaper and will better fit my budget.
Anyhow here are my system specs
Packard Bell 90MHz pentium w/16M ram
3ds r3
(I said I was just starting out!).
Anyhow I would apprieciate any help I can get . I have been going nuts
monitoring this forum trying to figure which way to go. Play it safe with PAR
or boldy step forward with NT and PVR and get a nice brain strain?

Drives suitable for the PAR will not work with the PVR. Simple reason –
PAR drives are IDE, PVR drives are SCSI – different interfaces.

I've got a PAR board but now wish I had a PVR board for the simple reason that
I can hang seven hard drives off the PVR but only two off the PAR. That would
give me 56 gigs online instead of 3.4 gigs. The biggest PAR drive is the
Micropolis 2217A IDE 1.7 gig drive.
The PVR will take the Micropolis 9 gig drives which have dropped in price. The
bad side to the PVR is that it needs Windows NT to run Razor 3. You would need
the Razor software in any event so, in my humble opinion, start off with the
best and go PVR. Its going to be the state-of-the-art for quite a while.
If your having trouble with NT, keep at it, mine installed perfectly. Also the
PAR board is the same price as the PVR board. The PVR capture card is also the
same price as the PAR's TBC/IV capture card I think.

Thanks for the input, I guess I'm going to tough it out with NT after all. Are
you sure PAR boards cost the same as PVR boards? I've seen PAR boards
advertised between 1.6k$ and 1.7k$ from computer retailers in the back of
related magazines (CGW,DV etc). I wonder if it is some bogus deal?

PMJI, but the PAR & PVR share the same list price from the manufacturer.
Obviously, what dealers choose to sell them at varies, in part according to
availability, dealer commitment and stocking levels, method of payment, etc.

No its not bogus. The price is the same.
Tough it out! In this case I think the PVR board will be the standard for quite
a while.
