Hi, I want to use the current (DOS) 3DSr4 with the new Windows 3.11/NT Perception Video Recorder …. ..any reason why I can't due that? What I had in mind was rendering the flics in the DOS OS and then copying them to the dedicated PVR drive and work with them via Razor Pro under Win3.11. Another question …..because I have heard do many different answers. Can I expect to use plugins designed for 3DSr4 in the Max version. I do not see how they could work. Thanks, jhg ps. Since all this work is being done to develope 3DMax, would it be much of a problem to make a Power-MAC and SGI 3DS version too? <no, no, don't hit me, it was a joke …. but not a bad idea>

But on the bright side many developers are hard at work on upgraded versions of plug-ins which will work with MAX. I'm sure we will here more towards the end of winter when MAX is about to ship. – Bob Ritger

If there is a PowerPC version it will only run under Windows NT. That rules out a PowerMac version. Besides the Mac guys have that great program Electric Image. [BG]

John, >> would it be much of a problem to make a Power-MAC and SGI 3DS version too? << it's supposed to be trivial to do NT Mips and PowerPC versions, but I don't know of SGI and Mac do some weird stuff to their hardware which would prevent NT running. I'll second the porting to all NT supported architectures, though!

I'll second the porting to all NT supported architectures, though!< The current PowerMacs wouldn't work since they are not PREP (Power PC Reference Platform) compliant. The newer Macs will be able to run NT and OS/2 Warp for PowerPC. NT won't run on SGI machines for various underlying hardware reasons. I don't think SGI would want their users to switch to MAX now that they own Alias/Wavefront. That would be cutting their own throat. MAX is the big squeeze.

They seem to keep things pretty closed with their hardware.

>Good news about the PowerPC… I wonder if you can have a dual boot Mac OS and NT.< They are trying to get there, that is the plan. Probably not until next year when the PREP Macs come out. At this point Apple only sells the Mac OS to OEM's.

Tim, >> They are trying to get there, that is the plan. Probably not until next year when the PREP Macs come out. << we have a few powerMacs. I'm just kinda curious about the possibility of upgrading them to a PREP mac and having a dual boot scenario. No bigg 🙂
