#PVR vs. Targa 2000

Does anyone have a good comparision of these two video capture/playback cards?
The PVR looks like a choice piece of equipment, but I have heard that it
doesn't work as smoothly with Adobe premiere as Razor Pro. I already have
Premiere.
I will primarily use the card I get for outputting 3D-Studio animations to
tape, and rendering the transitions, and integrating captured video with them
through Premiere.
Would it be worth it to go to Razor Pro? Any comments on this subject would be
appreciated.
PS: does anyone know the approximate time it takes to convert 100 TGA frames
(640×480, 24-bit) to ANI files with the PAR or PVR? Just need to know a
"ballpark" figure for the conversion time.

Premiere doesn't support the PAR/PVR as well as Razor Pro.

Probably if you end up getting the NT version it lists for $1499. Ouch.

On the PAR probably about 5 seconds or so per frame. Should be faster on the
PVR since it uses the PCI bus. I don't have my PVR yet, and I sold my PAR in
May, so the times are approximate.
Do you know the actual differences between how Premiere and Speed Razor/Razor
Pro interface with the PVR, why is one better than the other?.

I am just waiting for the harddrives and premiere 4.0a for my PVR. Hope it will
arrive this week, so I can tell you something from this side later. The manual
of the PVR says, that it only works with the version Premiere 4.0a!

Premiere does not work under Windows NT (and the PVR is intended for NT
– Win 3.1 support is a bit squirrelly). Speed Razor under NT would be a
reasonable way to go (you've been told about the pricing though). Targa 2000
with Razor Pro is fine under Win 3.1 (T2000 drivers for NT still in progress).
Throughput on the T2000 suffers from the Windows method of copying to memory,
THEN to disk. This will not occur in Win NT. PVR & PAR avoid transfers across
the bus, since the drives connect directly. Of course, the T2000 provides a
high-res Windows 24-bit display, and the PAR & PVR have none.

My $.02:
Speed Razor will work great with the PVR and the Targa 2000 under NT. The
Targa 2000 PCI Pro is a very nice card.
One of the biggest differences between the Targa and the PVR is that with the
PVR audio is handled seperately and is stored on your system drives (rather
than on the PVR drives). The Targa 2k has its own file format (which Razor
reads and writes directly to) which contains both the audio and video.

Now if Truevision would just get the darn T2000 Pro out, with NT
drivers. BTW, how's progress on Speed Razor – or are you waiting for the PVR
NT drivers? Just sold a couple more, but had to split off as Razor Pro now,
upgrades later.
