I've just started using Animator Pro and have had a couple of problems. One nagging and one fatal – altho' they might be related. I use a SummaSketch III dig tablet as a Windows pointing device. It works great for all Windows apps except AniPro. AniPro makes the entire tablet the active pointing area after I've defined a small area of the tablet for the pointing are. After AniPro closes the problem doesn't go away. I have to reboot Windows to get bacl to the small pointing area I prefer. This is anoying to say the least. Any fixes, workarounds, suggestions? The second problem is more serious. In trying to work thru the first tutorial in the docs I quickly ran into a problem. The excercise of using the "clone Ink" to cover up the diver just doesn't work. I've tried it twenty times. I follow all the instructions to the letter but when I double-click after setting the polygon fence around the diver nothing happens He just stays. It's quite frustrating….. As stated above I wonder if the two problems are related. Are there known problems working with a dig tablet rather than a mouse? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

>> I've just started using Animator Pro and have had a couple of problems. One nagging and one fatal – altho' they might be related. << hokay. << nope. none. i've had long chats with the folks at Summa and that's just the way the driver works. the only alternatives i know of are the summa driver and the microsoft mouse emulation drivers in AniPro… mouse config seems more stable. >> The second problem is more serious. In trying to work thru the first tutorial in the docs I quickly ran into a problem. The excercise of using the "clone Ink" << WOH NELLY! Animator Pro doesn't have CLONE ink, and the diver tutorial is from Animator Studio, not Animator Pro. two entirely different products… are you talking about the summasketch III having problems in AniPro or Astudio? if so… whole different ballgame! >> to cover up the diver just doesn't work. I've tried it twenty times. I follow all the instructions to the letter but when I double-click after setting the polygon fence around the diver nothing happens He just stays. It's quite frustrating….. << well… what can i say. even with the c0 version of Animator Studio, it works. there are several settings and toggles for the selection tools, and depending on these, it may or may not work. if you've tried it twenty times with the same selection tool configuration, i'm not surprised it's still not working. have you toyed with the toggles and settings? if you'd like, i can go step by step through it with you… it does work. >> As stated above I wonder if the two problems are related. Are there known problems working with a dig tablet rather than a mouse? << if your first question is actually about Animator Studio, to my knowledge they are unrelated. WINTAB has some known glitches and bugs when used with that tablet and several others. it has to do with the pressure sensitivity inability of the tablet and the way the driver was written. there have been a few problems reported with CLONE ink, some of these were fixed with the 1c1 update. again, my offer stands on the tutorial. this is something you really need to get under your belt (conceptually) so please take me up on it or you'll be missing out on some very powerful functionality in the program. have a great weekend. 🙂 -dave

>WOH NELLY! Animator Pro doesn't have CLONE ink, and the diver >tutorial is from Animator Studio, not Animator Pro. two entirely >different products… are you talking about the summasketch III having >problems in AniPro or Astudio? if so… whole different ballgame! I'm an idiot. Yes – as you suspected – I am using AniStudio, not Pro. Sorry. >if you'd like, i can go step by step through it with you… it does work. That'd be fab. Can I reach you via phone? I feel like I've exausted all the possibilities and am perty good at following the tutorial instructions so unless there is a setting somewhere that the tut doesn't mention yet then I just don't get it. >if your first question is actually about Animator Studio, to my >knowledge they are unrelated. WINTAB has some known glitches >and bugs when used with that tablet and several others. it has to do >with the pressure sensitivity inability of the tablet and the way the >driver was written. there have been a few problems reported with >CLONE ink, some of these were fixed with the 1c1 update. After writing the first message I tried the procedure again using the normal MS Mouse and driver. You're right. The problems are not related. The ClonInk thing doesn't happen when using the mouse either. Am awaiting the 1c1 update. Let me know how I can accomplish a tutorial with you. That might be the best option. Thanks for the help.

Behymer, I find it interesting that we're both unable to get clone ink to work. Perhaps we have something similar in our setup to point a finger at. Here's my setup: Packard Bell P5-60, 16 meg RAM, ATI mach 32 w/ 2meg VRAM 2.3 version video drivers, WFW 3.11 Dos 6.22, 32 bit file access on. Acecad d-9000 digitizer. Anything similar to your setup? Additionally, I've tried to use clone ink with other images/image formats with equal nonsuccess. Here's hoping Dave knows the secret setting we're missing… Al

Are you guys working in 24 bit? When I started working with AAS I noticed some things didn't quite work right in 24 bit and they did work in 16 bit. I don't recall if Clone ink was one of them. Clone ink works fine for me at the moment. I did upgrade to a 4 meg board however. An ATI Graphics Pro which works fine for AAS but has driver problems with 3DS. I just downloaded the Vibrant drivers and the Antivesa routine for the ATI board so I hope that helps me. Good luck to you with clone. Will

Hmmm…. I'll give that a try.

Our setups aren't really that similar. I'm running a Gateway P5-133XL w/ 40 MB RAM and a Matrox Mellinium graphics card and a SummaSketch III tablet. I'll certainly let you know if I come across any solutions….

>> That'd be fab. Can I reach you via phone? << nope. no phone stuff. i travel a lot and this would be difficult. however, what i can do is upload a series of screen captures showing all appropriate settings. you can view them with Paintbrush as you work in AAS yourself. this is a very quick and dirty way of showing what needs to be done, what screens should look like, what settings should look like, etc. and BMPs compress very well. i may use 8-bit images though to save space (they won't look as nice as 24-bit images) but they'll get the point across. otherwise the files will be very large. >> Let me know how I can accomplish a tutorial with you. That might be the best option. Thanks for the help. << my pleasure. i'm enjoying the weekend, so we'll get cracking on this if you like on Monday. -dave
