Hello ! What release of KF do you have ? The current is 1.81, with the big nice manual made by Dan Bean from 4DVision (SCHREIBER) Have fun with Key Factory ! Oops ! If you don't have 1.81, you miss the full color 3D preview and new wind and magnet force field with SPLINE based intensity…

>you miss the full color 3D preview and new wind and magnet force field with SPLINE based intensity… The letter I got from Scrieber when I got Key Factory said something to the effect that the new manual and version would be shipped free of charge, when it was available. That was months ago — and no word. Do I understand correctly that this version (and manual) is shipping and that I should start complaining?

Mike, PMJI, but I just bought and registered Key Factory about a month ago. I have version 1.0. Did I miss something, should I have a later version? Terry

Terry your copy of Key Factory is Registered with Schreiber and you will automaticly receive the final shipping version which is now at the printers. Murph'

I just spoke with Schreiber and they told me that the manuals just went to the press. They must of had a few limited pre-press versions available, if some people got them. They put my name on a list and said I would get the manual as soon as it comes back from the printers. Christopher Ryan Metrolight Studios

Thanks, I called them as well and they assured me they would ship the new version as soon as the manuals came back. I just got kind of nervous since I got the program several months ago and had forgotten (until now) they were going to send out an update. It isn't as if I have enough time to play with this stuff anyway! (I'm still trying to master World Builder)

Same here. Metrolight got a copy in on Friday, and I have been spending most of my time tinkering with it. It is really an exciting piece of software. Christopher Ryan Metrolight Studios

Serge, I have just been using your fantastic PV.KXP and I tried the KF demo. It looks very interesting but I noticed that the movement of the little balls after collision is not correct. The ball which has been struck moves in the indentical direction of the striker ball — instead of the correct vector which would result from a tangential contact. Is this just the way the was programmed? Will KF allow realistic billiard ball type movement? Alec Jason

Alec – Ditto – and I have the 1.8 version. In the tutorial, the dropping balls do not make contact with the surface (requiring that I manually shift the paths). Serge – am I doing something wrong? Pls advise. TIA Bob Weil Envision Graphics

Hello ! To make contact, you have to use edge to edge collision detection method for both objects along with a higher accuracy. Have fun with Key Factory !

Serge – I'll give that a try – although the tutorial seems to say differently – see page 132 of the tutorial – "edge to face" is indicated for the table top since "the table is one large face." Is this incorrect? In any case, using the settings shown in this tutorial caused the ball to begin its ascent a good 15% of the distance shy of the table. Serge – I have to tell you that this is one of the most impressively complete and well-thought-through ipases I have ever seen. Dan Bean's documentation is really fantastic as well – how many 3DS plugins ship with a 238 page manual and about 12 tutorials! And as a bonus, there is a comprehensive index. I also found that on one of the tutorials (I can't locate it just now in the manual – its the one where you set the elasticity of each of the six balls differently) – the two densest balls enter a fatal embrace with the table and fail to come to rest. I guess I'll need to set the "Avoid Embrace" button. Seems surprising that this would happen in one of the tutorial exercises. Vsego dobrovo, Bob Weil

Hello ! Since this is (as you said) one of the most impressively complete IPAS you have ever seen, the code inside is a one year (and 2 MB) work. I will pay a good beer if anybody can find another IPAS with more parameters and features. The drawback in adding lot of interesting features is that sometimes it's really difficult to take care of hundred of examples already done. But, as you start to understand the use of some parameters, this will be easy to change them to obtain the result you want. Have fun with Key Factory !

Hello, KF will allow realistic billiard ball type movement. This has been already done by Keith Seiffert and must be somewhere on SCHREIBER BBS or on one example disk. Ball motion: the behavior can be changed with one parameter and can fully use a tangential vector for motion (this is the tangential/radial ratio). Have fun with Key Factory !

>>What release of KF do you have ? The current is 1.81, with the big nice manual made by Dan Bean from 4DVision (SCHREIBER)<< 1.74! I asked for the latest version a couple of weeks ago but haven't seen it yet. I'll call Schreiber. >>Oops ! If you don't have 1.81, you miss the full color 3D preview and new wind and magnet force field with SPLINE based intensity…<< Cool! How about a "decay" for the Explode force ("releasing" objects from the force after n frames). May the force be with you, – Ron

Hello ! I guess that you will think that the (programming) force is with me because in KF 1.81 you have a new magnet force field with the following properties: – The intensity is edited as a SPLINE function (T-SPLINE) – The intensity multiplier is also edited as a SPLINE function (D-SPLINE). This the function of distance from center of each object. – The center of the field can be an object (with 'following' properties). – Each object have a 'magnet' sign either PLUS or MINUS. The force field, with all theses features, can be used to attract or repulse objects from its center, with a perfect decay… I think you can really obtain nice 'explosion effects' with this stuff… Have fun with Key Factory !
