Yo,
I want some new toys and I'm selling off stuff…
– Sanyo GVR-950 Single frame S-VHS recorder (comes with controller for 3D
Studio). It's got less than 20 minutes of use. (original packaging, docs,
cables, software, etc.)
– FAST Video Machine (The full one, not the "light"). All original box, docs,
software, cables, etc. Barely used.
– Turtle Beach Monterey sound board (with optional 4Meg SIPP memory for
sampling). (Again, all original box, manuals, software, etc.)
– Toshiba 3401 CDROM (2x) Works with PC's, Sun's and SGI's (it is set for SGI
but I can set it to whatever you want before shipping).
– Targa 64+ (all original cables, software, docs, etc.)
– Kurta XGT pressure sensitive tablet (all original docs, software, box,
etc.)
– An extra copy of 3D Studio R4 (still sealed and dongled) fully upgradable.
– Digitech TSR-24 True Stereo Reverb / Multi-Effects processor (rack mount).
The usual stuff, send in your bids… <g>

Does the CD-ROM have the SGI microcode needed for system software
installs? External?

Of course not. Had it, it wouldn't work with the Sun. Nevertheless I've
installed 5.2, the development option, the network file system and several
others non SGI disks with no problems. It complains but it goes. The option is
paying SGI $1,000 for the exact same thing with just a couple of bytes of
signature in the microcode different. I moved my Sun CDROM over to the SGI and
haven't used this Toshiba (I can still mount SUN disks from the network, or
plug the cable over there in the rare event I need to boot off the CD).

gee, i've looked thru my catalogues but can't find a Sanyo VCR dealer. So, *at
the moment*, I don't have a reasonable offer. But, maybe you can help? <g>
I own a PAR so don't really need a single frame recorder but thought it should
be higher quality than say a JVC hrs6900 which is not frame accurate. Also, it
should be more accurate for moving to specific frames. Is this correct? Will
it also last longer than a non-single frame VCR, considering I'll be dumping
from the PAR? Or, am I barking up the wrong tree again?
i.e. do you think a cheaper S-VHS VCR will work fine with the PAR? Currently I
own a 4 head (HQ) VHS VCR which does not have jog/shuttle and won't stop or
start accurately enough! If you were just an animation *hobbyist*, what would
you buy?

I think a regular SVHS will do just fine for you. You will not take any
advantage of the single frame portion of the unit. It does offer some other
"professional" features but for what you want I don't think it's worth the
added cost. If you want some features a little beyond consumer VCR's, check the
Panasonic 1970. It's a biffed up consumer SVHS deck (not frame accurate) but
has great features. In fact, that's what I want to do. I want to sell the Sanyo
and get a simpler deck. I have three Hi8 decks for editing (yeah, I know, but
hey, these are "toys") and I want something a little better than my consumer
SVHS (JVC 88 something). I got the Sanyo but it was overkill (and it didn't
work with the FAST which was what I had in mind in the beginning).

I had a quick question about the Fast Video Machine. Is it only software or is
it accompanied with an expansion board? And just to be clear, this is the
digital video editing software suite, right?
