You sound like you play yourself — gee, if I ever make it to a SIGGRAPH maybe
we can get some 3DSers tennis going. I'm a lot better at volleying than
rendering!

Yup, I try to hit 'em 4 or five time a week. I discovered mountain biking last
spring and totally fell in love. Great cross-training, but you can *really*
hurt yourself! Took me three weeks to get over a rib injury from a nice little
fall I had. So now I try to find time for both. On really lucky days, I
actually do both. These are nights I sleep *real* good! <g>
Agassi had quite a 5-setter tonight, eh? I think his main problem was that he
came out figurin' to roll over this guy, and it just didn't happen, so he was
all PO'ed about just keeping up — which he shoulda' been quite happy about
considering how well the Spaniard was playing. The clay dude wore himself out,
and AA just played it out, getting cleaner as he went. Entertaining tennis.
Thank God for BrookeCam!<g> I'm still trying to figure why he threw his water
bottle down after the match…

I can relate..
the phrase "OTB", as in I launced Over The handle Bars, is a very popular
phrase with the local bikers in Tahoe. I had the grand opportunity to be in a
mountain bike race a few years back at Squaw Valley. The first race was from
the parking lot to the top of the mountain (my buddies and I…um.. finished
that race) and then the second race was from the top to the bottom..(I had a
OTB encounter and I even think I flew for awhile <g> before hitting the ground
and rocks..and never finished the race :-)..)
4 or 5 times? You sound like me, we should definitely get together sometime.
Next to 3DS, tennis is about the only thing I never get tired of.

Boy, I'm glad you said that. My wife and I were *very* confused by it, and
since the USA commentators didn't say anything about it we started to think we
were hallucinating. He certainly didn't have any reason to be mad, and in the
interview he sounded fine, but for one brief moment he looked enraged.
It was a great match, though, and my own take is that just a couple years ago
Andre would have folded after the third, but he has confidence in his own
abilities, and his tennis just got better and better (that over the shoulder
shot was something I'll remember a long time!)
I'll hit tennis balls anywhere, anytime, Mike. If we're ever in the same spot
long enough to do it, I'm game!
I was replaying Agassi's water-bottle scene trying to discern what he was
looking at when he seemed to go off. At first I thought it was something in the
stands (Phil hugging Brooke a little too ardently, maybe?<g>). Or maybe seeing
Alex hurting badly bothered him enough to show a little bit of concern there
(nice scenario, but how likely?). Anyway maybe we'll find out as the Open
continues.
Prediction: Graf will fold under the multiple pressures of bone spurs, tax
problems, and Monica Seles and retire in the not-too-distant future. Monica
Seles will dominate womens tennis for years until Serena Williams comes along
and de-thrones her!<g>

Just read today's paper, Mike. It seems as though it was the CLOCK Agassi was
looking at that got him so upset. He just didn't think he should have been out
there at 11:00PM! This supports my theory about his earlier upsetness being
caused by his inability to easily roll over Alex Carretja.
Doesn't he realize yet that these guys are gonna be commin' at him with their
best and these things are gonna happen to ANY No.1? He should soon, 'cause it's
gonna happen and keep happening. He should just expect it and work through it,
instead of considering himself some kind of tennis super-hero that only Sampras
can threaten!
On with the Open!

Ah, that explains it. According to CBS, it took both Brooke and Brad Gilbert
assuring Andre all night that it was okay he actually won the match! Andre was
very depressed he didn't put him away 0-0-0.
But his match today with Eddy was a whole different story, wasn't it? However,
the match of the day was Mr. McEnroe — I'd love to see him make the semis!
i agree with patrick mc enroe being the best match of the day…
my only complaint is that CBS cut off their coverage at 6:00 and
by the time USA picked their's up at 7:30, the match was just
about over…
as for agassi, although i love watching him play (and win),
it was kind of depressing to see edberg being manhandled
like he was…
who here likes seles' chances of winning?

They said Brooke & Brad were "like": "Hey, chill out a little and be happy you
pulled it out fer cryin' out loud! — Play a round of golf or somethin'!"
Andre is certainly old enough now to to be a bit more thoughtful about where he
is, how he got there, and what can happen while he's there, no?
The good news (for him) is that, during an interview he totally admitted that
Alex was hot, and he had to dig deep and stay even to pull out the win.
Edberg gave it a gallant go, but Andre's return and passing game were really
too much for the "old" boy.
Great stuff from the younger McEnroe. He seemed to perk up just as his big
brother got over to his match…

hey, how do i get in on this tennis ladder?… i just got back
from a couple days at the open… aside from actually playing
tennis, watching the top 256 players in the world in action
is the only way to forget about objects, faces, vertices and
ipas routines for a while… but the vacation's over… time to
put down the racquet and pick up the mouse…

i'd be more than happy to turn on the tv next saturday and watch
seles vs graf for a couple of hours… i just hope that graf would
be able to play at the top of her game, and not let all the distractions
get to her… i can't imagine being able to put up with all of the
garbage that she has to deal with, and still stay number 1 in the
world… but it seems like she thrives on the pressure, and really
savors the victories more when she has these obstacles to
overcome… more power to her… (not literally, of course)… and,
of course, everything that i just said could also be applied to
monica, as well…
i saw a little of the sampras-philippoussis match yesterday…
but the one who really impressed me yesterday was michael
chang… i've been watching him play for several years, but i think
last night was the first time that i really saw him as a serious
challenger for the title… he's raised his game tremendously
over the past few years… rather than being content as a defensive,
run-everything-down type player, he's developed some pretty
impressive weapons to attack with… he's got a good shot at this,
i think…
and how about boris becker?… he's quietly moving his way
toward next weekend…

The ubiquitous tennis can reared it's head in the r3 reference and the latest
issue of Planet Studio, Mike. It was sitting in my room back in'90 and was the
first thing I did (besides the tutorials) with r1.

forehand. I am trying a special effect to upload a surprise in honor of
Monica's comeback (hooray).
Allan is very Mr. Tennis; and not just le premier renderer of the Tennis Ball
Can- he is a player from many years ago with True Eastern US Tennis
credentials, if I recall.

Love to see it — Monica is a charmer, and I'm rooting for her to prove the
analysts all wrong (those who thought she wouldn't have a chance at the Open).
It's nice to see that her experiences haven't left her scared of crowds — she
seems more relaxed and happier than I remember her before her hiatus.

Oopps, I had better be careful who I pick up a racket with. Well, if he
doesn't mind doubles I still may be able to give him a game — in my old age
doubles is about as much as I can handle. You and me against Alan and whomever
he can scare up. But I'd make it a point go to to SIGGRAPH in Big Easy just to
play tennis with everyone — tennis and 3DS, it can't get any better than this!

I need it more for my Mic 3243AV. As yours went, so went mine. Funny; I could
read the second partiition and was on the phone to tech when it made this
gawdawful noise. I put the phone next to it for the techie: his first words
were: "I'll transfer you to customer service" R.I.P.
Have you or anyone else had any luck with Diamond Viper PCI w/NT? They worked
with 3.5 but not at all (so far) with 3.51.

I agree with your comments about Monica, Mike. One only had to watch her match
with MartinaN to know she was 95% back (and her 95% is enough to plaster most
everyone on the woman's tour<g>).
I just hope she feels half as happy-go-lucky after 6 months on the tour.
It was nice to see Stephie playing happy today. I love it when she smiles!
Mary Joe Fernandes is such a trooper! And a super-nice woman (I used to string
her frames along with quite a few players on the woman's tour at Newport RI's
Tennis Hall of Fame) I could swear she was undernourished as a child or
something, the way she just stays so skin-and-bones. Gabby played great and
deserved the win.
Sampras looked unbeatable! Sheesh, if it's an Agassi/Sampras final we're gonna
have a hell of a Sunday! Do I smell another McEnroe/Borg epic?
Don't have to worry about playing with me, I'm just another club hack like
everyone else…<g> I can always get GregP to play on my side, right Greg?

Love it! I only wish it could go on for another two weeks — as the last grand
slam of the year draws to a close (and the weather turns colder so I can't get
out and play) I'm getting depressed. The only joy about being old is that
times passes quickly — it'll be next spring before I know it (and I have a lot
of rendering toys to play with during the winter).
We have *got* to get together and play sometime. (And with Rachel on my side
you might be distracted enough for us to give you a good match!)
Yeah — 4 weeks of US Open. That would be wonderful!
I know what you mean about the weather changing — that's why we moved to San
Diego. NO more winters!
